Awesome PS3 Xmas Story
« on: December 25, 2008, 06:22:11 PM »
Been talking to my brother and his fiancee before Xmas, saying how interested they were about seeing LBP. So I brought the PS3 back with me and set it up this morning. Hook it up, set up the network settings so I could show them Azure Palace and the other interesting levels. Turns out for some reason it wont connect to the PSN. Oh well I think, we'll just check out the normal levels.

Then I get this:

"Version 1.07 available. You must update to play this software etc.."

Can't play the game unless I update the software. Interest from the family instantly disappears. I try the settings again, PSN fails, no LBP to show them. They get up and go do something else and no longer care. I no longer care as I pack up my PS3.

Good jon Sony.  :-\

you could have just unplugged the network cable and it would ignore all that updating nonsense

Pull out the network cable? Christmas could have been saved.

actually, you just needed to sign out of PSN.  I forgot that when LBP first came out and there were massive server issues, I had to sign out to play the game.

Bingo

Not that I disagree with the general tone; I've had it up to here with having to go through an update before damned near every play session with family. But for local play, there's a pretty basic work-around.

Same thing happened to me actually  :lol

My brothers PS3 wouldn't connect to his wireless network and I wanted to show him LBP but couldn't download the update.

But my story is a little different.

I figured out why it couldn't connect and solved the problem. Within minutes were were playing LBP and my brother was telling me how cool it was.

Good job at being useless, dude.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I got my sister a Wii after a tremendous amount of hunting, and a copy of Animal Crossing: City Folk (AC is one of her favorite games on the DS).

She's taken it home, set it up, and AC won't play because it requires an update, and she has no hi-speed internet/wireless router where she lives. What a bunch of bullshit.  :maf

The update is on the disc. Just like every other game that requires one. How old is your sister?

I "played" Home today. What a pile of shit.

You know you've made bad software -- if Home even qualifies as such -- when the most fun to be had is running to use a vacant virtual arcade machine before some guy gets to it just to gloat.

I'm glad I predicted Home would suck when it was first announced.

Tried out dualshock 3 for the first time. Wayyyyyyy better than shitty sixaxis.

Fuck, you're kidding. I had even asked her that and she said "no". So much for my anger at Nintendo. I'll tell her she's stupid on your (and my)  behalf tomorrow.  :dur

How do you gloat with no voice chat LOL

I went over to my fiance's house, we got her brother a 360. Verizon Fios' Actiontec router is apparently even worse with 360s than it is with Acer and HP laptops.
