Halo 3/Xbox LIVE :MAF
« on: December 29, 2008, 10:11:34 AM »
I just popped in Halo 3 awhile ago because I saw that my brother in law was online playing it. It takes literally 3+ minutes for the MS and Halo 3 banner screens to appear. After that, it turns to black screen for at least another 5 minutes. Thinking that it was just my Xbox locked up I turned the system off. When I turn it back on my profile is gone and I look in my HDD to see that it is corrupt. This happened to me last year as well, with Halo 3. I have to delete my profile and then recover my gamertag. Well my gamertag has been downloading for at least an hour now, despite its measly 13MB in size, and it is still only 3/4 of the way done. I don't know if it's LIVE or Halo 3 (i tend to believe it's Halo since it is the only game in which this has occurred), but either way its a fucking joke.

Another Halo 3 / XBL complaint.

I have voice set to come through headset on the 360. I have voice set to headset only through Halo 3. So why, when I pull out the headset, do I still hear those stupid voices coming through the television? Didn't work that way on Xbox 1, headset-only meant headset-only. Didn't have a headset plugged in? No voices.

And for crying out loud, why don't the choices stick? In every single game session, why do I have to go in and select "Mute All" within Halo 3?

Good grief. I was thinking about pulling this out and trying some rounds to get my FPS on, but I'm afraid of losing my gamer profile now. How the hell does it corrupt the file?!

Does anyone know how much worse the load time get if you install it? I remember them recommending that you don't install it, but I'd take slightly longer load times if it means a quieter system

Well, to be fair I must say that I did not have profile permanently fucked up as I was able to recover it from Xbox Live, it just took way too long to recover and it was a huge pain in the ass. I have no idea how or why it corrupts my profile, but it happened to me when the load screen was idling for 5+ minutes (seemingly frozen or locked up) and then I turned off the console to restart.

You guys should try clearing the HDD cache.  I've never heard of it taking more than a few minutes to get online in H3.  I've heard a lot about disconnects but nothing like this.

oh, you're taking an hour to recover the profile off of XBL.  Yeah, it's supposed to take that long.  The server gets confused or something and it just goes really slow.  After the first time that you recover it, it usually goes a lot faster (about 5-10 mins).

To be more clear, I'd be afraid of losing ALL MY GAMESAVES, since I've got several I plan on going back to, someday. The save data is associated with an account, but the act of recovering the account assigns a new unique ID to that gamertag, potentially making the save data unusable, according to MS' site.
