But I mean...no I really didn't. The rpg:non-rpg ratio is ridiculous. I like portable rpgs but shit, what the hell happened to fast paced, pick up and play action? I think ds is severely lacking on that front, which is why I prefer the gba and the psp.

Not saying all are as there looks to be a few good ones in there.  My tastes may be different than yours of course.

You forgot Phantasy Star Portable for NA PSP. Also, Umihara Kawase is supposedly being tweaked/fixed for it's North American PSP release.

As for the PSP in Japan 2009:

Cho Aniki
Zill O'll Infinite Plus
Tenchu 4
Tales of The World: Radiant Mythology 2
Parasite Eve: Third Birthday
Dynasty Warriors Multi Raid
Gundam: Ghiren no Yabou: Axis no Kyoui V
Brandish
Fist of the North Star: Raoh Gaiden - Ten no Haoh
Idolmaster SP: THREE FUCKING VERSIONS
Kamen no Maid Guy: Boyoyon Battle Royale
Mimana Iyar Chronicle
Soul Eater Battle Resonance
野球

agreed. most of them seem more geared towards people who ONLY play rpgs rather than like, you know, actually really good games I'd want to try out.

Pretty much all the best ds rpgs are PORTS or REMAKES. Etrian aside, I can't think of any ds rpgs that I'd want to play that's currently out on the system and I already have that.

Shiren may possibly become my favorite RPG of all time.  I guess it's a port, but it's a port (with additions) of a game never released outside Japan.  World Ends with You and Lunar Knights are also fine games.

No mention of Resistance Retribution? it already looks better than Resistance 2 (what a feat that was!)

also, Pixel Junk Monsters on PSP

Predicting retro game challenge will be portable goty

I have the import and it's not. It's a bunch of so-so games that seem like they were made in the nes era.  That isn't exactly a bad thing, just don't expect these to be good games.  Like, if these games were released on the nes way back when, no one would have remembered them at all.  Well, maybe the Ninja Gaiden-ish one, but not the rest.  The sequel looks better and I'll probably import that.

You really think 3rd birthday is 2010? I could see that for fiscal year reasoning, but wow. Then again, Square's PSP titles have all had really healthy, long dev cycles. But the death of the PSP in general has to be pushing up against them on the back end.

Developer interviews give the impression it's still sort of on the back burner while they concentrate on other stuff like FF13 and Agito, and Agito is almost definitely 2010.  Then again, 3B is externally co-developed and probably a smaller project, so who knows.  How big is Hexa Drive, and are they working on anything else at the moment?

most of the games I've imported already came to the states (Bleach fighting games, Bangai-o, now game center cx) and I wind up getting doubles.  Off the top of my head, the games that haven't been brought over here are the Jump Stars games (good), Gurren Lagann DS (terrible), Gundam 00 DS (terrible), Chou Soujuu Mecha MG (surprisingly awesome), Prince of Tennis (good; and I think others came out, I'm talking about the first one)

Chou Soujuu Mecha MG is basically a mech game similar to R.A.D on the PS2, except all the controls are on the touch screen.  You actually flip switches and turn dials to move parts.

Logan's Shadow was really fun, but it was very repetitive. The controls were surprisingly competent and the cinematics were very high quality. I am looking forward to Resistance, but I wish that sony would focus more on the handheld specific games (like Jeanne Darc).

You may as well throw in Iga's next mediocre Castlevania in the first post.  Those chores are more regular than my bowel movements at this point.  You could probably just post a few pictures from any of the past 3 iterations since that's about what it will look like.

I don't think they've announced a PS2 release yet.  Hard to say if they'll bother, based on Dark Mirror's sales.

Logan's Shadow is pretty cool.  The story is really interesting, the new swimming stuff is fairly well-handled, and you barely miss the "M" rating.  It's definitely just another serving of Dark Mirror, but I loved every minute of it.

In that case I will probably just stick with Dark Mirror. I got up to some annoying part with tons of snipers and put it down a long time ago :/

I don't know about that.  I mean, Galaxy was amazing, but I'd bet that was before they realized they can make profit for little to no effort.  If they do something in 2009 that proves they're still willing to make good games, then cool.

I definitely preferred Galaxy and Twilight Princess over Sunshine and Wind Waker. I'd rather have SNES era Nintendo over everything though. I have a feeling that any 'hardcore' games won't be done by EAD proper, anymore, but rather be farmed out to sub-teams.
