Zune 30 Owners - check to see if yours be bricked
« on: December 31, 2008, 10:31:20 AM »
Got this info from GAF. All Zune 30s are bricking themselves.

They are all resetting then getting stuck with the loading bar at 100%.

I had my hooked up to my 360 and it did it as well.

No fix at the moment.

I just have the 120GB running for about a week, I will be severely bummed out if it follows the 30's.

Crazy stuff, imagine this happening to iPods, madness.

It's been freezing a lot of late, too. Damn you Drinky, this is all your fault.

Found this interesting tidbit on Gizmodo...

After reading a lot of posts it looks like this is tied to midnight PST December 30th 2008. It may be a coincidence but that today is the 366th day of 2008 since it was a leap year. One part of the firmware probably calculated that it is 2009 already and another that it is still 2008.

I wonder if they all recover at midnight PST tonight?

If someone with a 30, can recover enough to change the Zune's clock to some other day.... does that fix the problem?

so maybe it will fix itself later? lol

well, if it's 3.0 then get 3.1, they improved syncing stability or some shit.

that if your zune will work again.

How to check the firmware version on your Zune Device.

1. On the Home screen on the Zune device, select Settings, and then press the OK button in the center of the Control Pad.

2. Select About, and then press the OK button.

3. Select Zune, and then press the OK button.

i guess there are lots of companies who make shitty hardware, but does anyone's hardware fail as hilariously as microsoft's? the 360's design signature turning into a symbol of incompetence and unreliability? all mp3 players of a certain make dying mysteriously on the same day? this is a talent of some kind

it's software issue not hardware.

i think it's simply because the blogfolk really delight in ms getting smacked. i went through 6 -- 6! -- dreamcasts thanks to drive failures, and yet that machine is still regarded as some sort of hardware paragon!

dreamcast drive failures are really easy to fix -- unfortunately i didn't figure this out until i'd gone through two of them

LOL... this is epic. I have a Z30 but no way am I bothering to turn it on. Does this only affect with the latest update? I havent updated mine in a while. The last thing I updated to was when they included Hexic and Texas Hold Em.

Did you get a new 360 or something?  If that the case use the license transfer tool.

They're saying its a bug related to the clock driver not being able to recognize the extra day in the leap year. It will automatically fix itself as the date changes over to 2009.

Isn't the 30GB Zune a rebadged Toshiba product?

My Zune 30 is frozen. What should I do?

Follow these steps:

   1. Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.
   2. Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain—this is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours.
   3. Wait until after noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (that's 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).
   4. Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge.

Once the battery has sufficient power, the player should start normally. No other action is required—you can go back to using your Zune!
