I wonder if announcing him this early means he will be appearing to some major degree in the specials?

As I said in the GAF thread, it has already been established that Time Lords do not switch genders. Except for that time with Joanna Lumley.

Man, I really wish they would have gotten Rowan Atkinson to take the part back in his prime.

Yeah, he is the dude from Perfume. Christopher Eccleston also had a film career when he took the role. Note that I think it will be Paterson Joseph. I am secretly hoping for James Nesbitt.

Man, reading the rumors at the doctor who forum is insane. They all have theories and "clues" on how it's going to be this or that unexpected actor. Like right now they have me hyped that it could be Anthony Stewart Head.

The Anthony Stewart Head is the Doctor clues are:

1) He's appeared on Doctor Who twice. Freema and Tate both appeared on Doctor Who before coming onboard as regulars.
2) When the series relaunch was announced, ASH won some big poll about the public's opinion on who the new Doctor would be.
3) ASH has been narrating since Doctor Who Confidential since S2. In S1, Simon Pegg narrated. In the promo for the new DWC where the new Doctor will be announced, Simon Pegg is doing the voiceover rather than ASH, as though ASH had another role on the show.
4) David Tennant was the narrator on the very first ep of DHC, before Simon Pegg took over.

Eh, I doubt he'd return to british tv after being on a major american show. He does to this day keep claiming he'd like to do another series of a bit of fry and laurie though but eh...still, he'd never do it Doctor Who.

if you watch the interview, it seems like he would be good at playing a depressed Doctor again. I don't think Tennant ever really could seem depressed or lonely as good as Eccleston, but this new guy seems like he could out-do him in acting sad.
