Just built my computer. But I guess something isn't right.

So i finally got all the necessary parts to build my computer.

I got all the needed parts in there. Mother board, PSU, CPU and CPU fan, video card, ram, hard drive. Far as I can tell everything is plugged correctly into the psu. Hard drives are plugged into the mother board and psu, ram in right, cpu was easy to get in. fan it came with went right on top and the little clamps hooked in easily. video card took a little fight to get in because the case is a piece of shit and the space the metal tab needs to slide through wasn't big enough but I fixed that.

so I plug it into an outlet, plug monitor up and press the power.

And it powers up. cpu fan and video card fan spins up. No strange noises are heard.

But the problem is that I never get any video on my screen, and the hard drive lights on the front never light up.

the hard drive that's in there is straight out the PC I'm using right now. I just took it out and plugged it into the new one. It's working fine because I'm using it right now.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

Are there two video ports on your Video Card? If so, is it connect to the right one? With some video cards connecting the monitor to the secondary port wont' pass the signal.

What type of card is it (AGP, PCI-e?). Make sure the secondary motherboard power connector is connected,

If there is an on board(on the mobo) video connection, connect there first and disable it in your bios. Assuming you have a video card.

This may sound ridiculous, but make sure the motherboard isn't touching any metal.  I think mobos come with these little padding circles.  I built a computer once and everything seemingly was powered up, except the electricity was transferring to the metal, instead of some of the devices.  I probably have the science wrong, but padding up the mobo fixed it.

it's pci-e and i my psu has a cable plug sticking out that's for pci-e cards so i plugged it into the video card. the video card has two dvi ports and one s-video, I tried both dvi port and i didn't get any video.

Do you see another connector on the motherboard? It should be a 4 Pin connector (Square). Its supposed to provide extra power to the PCI-e port. This is assuming it isn't connected but if it is, then I go with Propagandhim's suggestion of checking if there's a ground somewhere. If that's not the case then somethings defective.

Its weird that your getting no beeps but would just mean that there's no internal issues with the motherboard and certain connections.

I think I may see what you're talking about. It's near the top of the mobo. My video card came with a plug that goes in the back and has two horizontal four pin power connectors. I didn't use it because the PSU manual says I can just plug the PCE labeled connector from my PSU to my video card. i'll try plugging that into the thing you're talking about and use the cable that came with the card to plug into the psu.

That sounds like a serial port, so you know. VGA ports on motherboards are generally female 15-pin ports, while serial ports are male 9-pin ports.
