This is the acronbis disk director software.  As far as I know, you just run it from within windows.

Did it work? Sounds easier than my scenario anyway.

Acronis Disk Director Suite seems to be partitioning things the way I want.  There's formatting and kung fu and shit going on right now.  I am going to step out for a bit and see what the story is when I get home in maybe an hour.

All I can say is let it finish.

There have been a few times when I thought it was hung up and I almost pulled the plug, but it always finished.  Don't put any faith in the 'time remaining' clock.

wow, IE8 is extremely fast on Win7 (compatibility still sucks so i set it to render all pages in compatibility view).

the only issue i have right now is ati radeon driver, it failed to install vista and win7 beta drivers (gives me some error code) so i'm using the one from windows update, as for the other drivers, it detected my hp photosmart printer, bluetooth adaptor, mouse, keyboard, hdds blah blah painlessly.

also, windows update did not find the mp3 fix so be sure to grab it from here:

The only thing I can't get running right now is my ghetto, 2003 Soundblaster Value card. Not a big deal since I have a spare/can use the internal sound, but eh.

things i noticed:

- IE8 is faster than when i used it on vista sp1.

- live messenger is broken.

- compatibility mode is broken for me (always get error code 0xc0000005).

- wmp12 repeat button not working and i don't see the option menu while in now playing mode/skin, also mp4 not working, i get some mediafoundation PIP error, even tried using 2 different codec packs (cccp and vista codec pack) but no good.

For me, on two different machines, trying to access the page file settings causes those particular windows to freeze.

Page file settings:

Start -> Computer -> System Properties tab ->  Advanced System Settings in lefthand pane -> Performance -> Advanced tab -> Virtual memory section

There are also some issues with UAC although I do not have enough machines to single them out effectively.  On my EEE PC, I was able to run applications in admin mode while in safe mode.  On my M1330, I cannot run applications in admin mode while in safe mode.

WMP12 doesn't seem too much different from 11.  It still needs a complete and total UI redesign.

yes! see the two buttons in the far bottom-right? one is for switching between library and now playing mode, right to it is the full screen button.

or you can right click --> view --> now playing while in library mode.

keep getting error messages when i attempt to partition.

first it was bad sectors, so i ran disc check and now those are taken care of, then i get an error where it's expecting to find a file that's not there and then it craps out again.

ah well.

I'll just not worry about it.

I tried to update my wife's BB 8310 to 4.5 on my laptop tonight. Everything was fine until the first 'Wait for device initialization' section. It sat there for an hour and a half before I pulled the plug. Fried BB. :'(
A new one is on its way at least.
Dunno if I can blame it on W7 yet though.

For some reason, windows update crashes explorer (reformatted twice but still happens after some time) so back to vista sp1.

I'm not 100% sure but i suspect CCleaner is why.

It's been about 2-3 weeks now, what does everyone think of Windows 7? I just installed it on my laptop and it runs great! I swear this thing boots up in 2 seconds and loads EVERYTHING where my old cut version of XP took even longer to load. My only complaint is that the active windows are really bright (gray) and Windows Media Player 12 doesn't seem to be able to turn itself into a miniplayer on the task bar.

What do you all think of it now?

I'm really really enjoying it.  Macbooks have an issue where audio doesn't work at all when you install it, but all you have to do is open up the boot camp drivers and configure the realtek drivers and say they worked with vista.

Left 4 Dead runs a little weird, but eh.
