oh

that "first 2.5 million" statement led me to believe it would have to be activated with a key code

why the 16GB requirement listing?

i'm not sure it would run so well on my aspire, probably just stick with XP for that one, but it's definitely getting installed on my HP laptop

Even if you can install it in 5GB, would you really want the OS eating more than half of all your storage space?

i'm just going to live with what i bought until the new ion netbooks hit, then i'm selling both my hp laptop and my aspire one and putting that money towards the best ion netbook available (which will probably come with windows 7 installed or available as an upgrade)

1000h, 2 gigs of RAM.  Some applications that seemed laggy in XP (like, Digsby's animation was choppy a bit), run smoothly in Windows 7.  I still want to give Photoshop a try on it, and maybe FL Studio, since they featured similar slowness in XP.

I really need to invest in one of these. At least now I'll have an excuse to buy one  if my current laptop comes back from the shop and is still a mess. :hyper

It's already in beta?  So how soon are they looking to release the final version?  Next January?

I know Vista wasn't that well-received, but trying to overwrite it so quickly seems absurd.

As is pointed out every time someone makes that comment, once every 3 years was the pattern between 95, 98, and XP.  It's not that early.

Sorry yeah.  I guess my memory isn't so good.  The 10-12 month transition from "Vista blows" to "Vista's pretty decent" kinda subtracts a year in my mind.  It feels like it was only launched yesterday.....plus my first Vista experience was only a few months ago, so it seems weird hearing about a new OS already.

Still, it seems like the OS world should be moving to longer product cycles in the same way the game console world probably will.

How do you define too short or too long, really?  The gap between XP and Vista was the longest gap in major OS release history.  OSX updates itself every 1-2 years, and the Linux kernel updates multiple times per year.  What gets it right, exactly?

There doesn't happen to be a EXE version by any chance does there? I can burn the .ISO to a disk because my burner is broken.

I was in the same boat so I just installed it from a thumbdrive with this guide:

The exe is the setup file in the ISO.  You need all the contents of the ISO, not just the exe file.

It'll probably look for the CD on first reboot though; if that happens you can just point the installer to whatever folder you extracted the files at.

Oddly enough, I was expecting to have to do this, but after I launched from my SD card, it worked fine and I didn't have to select anything, even though the SD drive wasn't in my boot device priority list.

you can skip entering a key during install.

either enter it later or google PlusPatcher (v5 for both 32 and 64bit or v6 which is currently only for 32).

Grrrrrr.  I can't repartition my drive inn my M1330.  I have about 60 gigs free, but the largest it will allow me to make a new partition is 900 megs.  Any suggestions?  I have defragged repeatedly and turned off my page file.

Burn this utility CD and boot from it. I use the Acronis disk director suite all the time at work to create and/or rob free space from an existing partition.

There are lots of goodies on there too.
