"there are agents everywhere, how can i do that?!"

How many times has this happened. I was on the edge of my seat during the interrogation/phone call...now it feels like a balloon just fizzled. We'll see though

and I don't trust the Sec of Defense

Holy shit just saw ep5, had me on the edge of my seat. My interest had really fizzled after the predictable double cross with the secret service agent, but overall that was a good episode.

She's definitely alive.

FBI stuff: meh. I just don't care about anyone there
White House stuff: not bad, but I miss Tom Lennox :(

They silent clocked her though...  I don't think anyone has lived through a silent clock.  The only exception to the rule was Tony who I don't remember if he got a silent clock or not, but I remember it being a big controversy.

Jack got a silent clock at the end of season 6
as did Palmer at the end of season 2
also Mason got a silent clock during season 2 as well before the episode that he died in.

and also the actress is signed on to all 24 episodes.

Yeah. She's alive. Honestly the only reason they did the silent count was because I think the writers thought burying someone alive was truly fucked up shit.

Yea, that last shot was pretty awesome. Killing her off early wouldn't make any sense. 24 really shot their load with the massive amounts of deaths in previous seasons. Now I'm left with two old characters I care about (Jack and Tony) and two I like (Buchanan and Chloe).

And the writers still seem to think character drama=bad bosses, marital affairs, and find-a-mole. I just don't care about the FBI stuff. Janice seems cool but like I said, she's basically a nicer Chloe. I would have loved to see a side story introducing us to the African fighters on the ground, waiting for US intervention. That would be compelling drama. They could have shot it while they were there doing Redemption

They have enough boring sub-plots as it is. Anyway, the writers don't write that far in advance; if they change the plot, all that African footage might end up being useless.

Yup they have it planned out this time, which should pay off in the latter episodes. I thought S6 was good despite the flaws (many of which all 24 seasons have, except S1) but the end game felt tacked on.

epic bump

Last two episodes were good overall. There were some bad parts, especially in ep 23 with the whole Kim-on-fire and airport shootout. But overall I was impressed, and quite happy the show didn't go for pure shock; I reallly expected Ethan's car to explode, or for him to die in some form.

The ending of the Tony story was expected, and satisfying. He's not a good guy, he's not totally a bad guy. This was the most logical avenue to take him, and people complaining about him switching to "a good guy" don't know what they're talking about. I wonder if he'll be working with the FBI/CTU to bring down the patriot organization.

I thought the first couple episodes were a little meh, but it didn't take long for things to get awesome. Like many have said, the first half of the season is amazing. The second half wasn't bad, it just slowed down. Really there were only a couple "bad" episodes. But...it's hard to compete with the first half, from Renee getting fake killed to the WH invasion. They saved the best for the last couple episodes though. I'm very, very excited for S8. There are so many ways it could go...the possibilities are endless

Also I gotta say damn, I wonder how some conservative folks felt about this season. From the anti-torture stuff to stem cells to Jack confessing to a Muslim  :lol

Another solid season. Not the best, but I'd say it's closer to the top tier seasons than the bottom tier seasons.

S1>S5>S3>S2>S4>S7>S6

imo S6 wasn't nearly as horrible as people claim. The first 4 episodes are amazing, but really the first half of the season is good. Things do slow down, but the last 4 episodes are great, and it has one of the best finales in the show's history

Well in terms of quality...

Top tier: S1, S5, S3
Middle Tier: S2, S4, S7
Bottom Tier: S6
(but you're still right)

How is he not a bad guy? He killed many innocent people--and tried to kill thousands more--simply to exact revenge.

The last half-hour seemed like a clumsy attempt to distance the show from the Bush administration. This was particularly event in three eye rollin' scenes: (1) Jack's discussion with Walker in which he expressed regret for his past actions; (2) President Taylor's repeated reference to the sanctity of Constitution (right, that's the first thing that comes to mind when you daughter is about to face life in jail); (3) Jack's request to see an Imam that he met for five minutes on his death bed (somehow religion never came up).

"Bad guy" and "good guy" terms don't seem to fit well with Tony's situation here. He's a terrorist who killed innocent people, which makes him a bad guy in general. Me and other folks are just pointing out that he's not involved in any particular bad guy group, and instead has worked to dismantle it.

Which makes me very interested in what they do with him in S8.

I thought the last two scenes you mentioned were good. The president was just saying her decision was based on her duty to uphold the constitution; it wasn't the first thing she thought of either, considering the long emotional scene with Olivia and Mr. Taylor (who came off as a total douche, and quite different than his portrayal in previous episodes).

I liked the Imam scene, and I thought it did what Jack's scene with Renee failed to do. The first scene with the Imam (a few episodes ago) was great imo, and the scene in the finale was a nice conclusion.

Ah I forgot to talk much about Renee. Early on in the season it was pretty clear she would slowly "become" Bauer. Too bad the cliffhanger means we can't totally validate that theory yet.

So Tony needs to be involved in a group in order to be a bad person? And he had no interest in dismantling the secret organization. He was only trying to kill Wilson, which would actually allow the organization to survive.

President Taylor said that repeatedly throughout Day 7 regarding every single decision she made. Obviously, in that situation, she has to decide whether she will continue following the rule of law or protect her daughter. But she simply glosses over the dilemma and repeats the same phrase over and over again: "I swore to uphold the Constitution." Great zzzz.  The constant repetition is what got to me and it was clearly didactic. The writers and producers were showing the audience how a president should behave: upholding the Constitution even at great personal cost unlike the previous president--who they tacitly supported.

Great, I didn't need the message.

I liked the Imam scene, and I thought it did what Jack's scene with Renee failed to do. The first scene with the Imam (a few episodes ago) was great imo, and the scene in the finale was a nice conclusion.

Why would a man who showed no religious beliefs ask an Imam he barely knows to talk to him on his death bed?
And how believable is it that a Imam, or any other religious leader, would not try for a death bed conversion?

Here's my rating:  ::) (a drugged and nearly dead Jack in handcuffs managed to kill three men in under ten seconds. Then, while shaking worse than Michael J Fox, he managed to immobilize Tony by purposely shooting him in the hand.)

admittedly, I'm a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow for demanding plausibility from this show.

I didn't say that. I'm merely saying that any switch Tony had was a double cross of both groups (the "good guys" and "bad guys" in the series). Some folks on GAF and a few of my buddies have complained he switched to being a good guy again, which simply isn't true. Saying he's not totally a bad guy merely points out he wasn't working FOR the patriots or whatever they're name is.

The entire president thing reminded me of S1 when Sherry wanted to destroy the tape that proved their son was innocent. And while I agree with your main point, I still think you're wrong about

Quote
(2) President Taylor's repeated reference to the sanctity of Constitution (right, that's the first thing that comes to mind when you daughter is about to face life in jail);

As I pointed out, that was not the case; she did not dwell on the constitutional issues first.

To me the Imam thing was more about Jack recognizing the error of his ways and wanting to make amends. Cheesy? Sure
