slow firefox/ie. no viruses detected
« on: January 13, 2009, 10:47:25 PM »
firefox and internet explorer are going slowwwwwwwwwwwwww as fuck.  the rest of the computer runs fine.  i ran virus detection on superantispyware and avg and neither found anything.

could it be some setting or something?  maybe an uninstall/reinstall of both?  my actual internet speeds are fine (works great on my other pc), just the browsers are super sluggish.

it started out slowly when i would stream videos/music.  ie/firefox would bloat up to about 300 mb's of RAM with one window open.  if i ran ccleaner it would work again for a bit but the longer i streamed media, the worse it would get.  now it's terrible when just browsing the net.

so help?  anyone?

Is you spyware updated? Did you check your cable/dsl provider for local outages? Did you run your anti-malware programs in SAFE MODE?

From my experience today, compared to yesterday, everything is extremely slow. From MS to Dell's downloads(and I've done a lot)

Something IS going on today.

1- clear all private data like history, cache and cookies.

2- run firefox in safemode (start menu then search for firefox safe mode) and IE7 in no add-ons mode (search for internet explorer via the start menu and you should see it), if the problem is gone then it's probably an addon causing this.

3- do what toxicadam suggested, preferably with malwarebytes.

well i ran firefox in safe mode and it seems to be running better.  albeit, this is without extensive testing.  i was able to watch a 6 minute video without it stalling which is by far better than the 30 seconds i got out of a youtube video last night.

so what's the next step?

also when this shit goes on, cpu usage goes to 100% while memory hovers around 50%
