It is good, but difficult. There seems to be a set path to do things (i.e. grindan, the order you do sidequests, etc.) and I don't really care for that part of it.

I just got owned by some giant dragon. I was whittling it down, doing ok, the it blasts me with some Vulcanbreath, taking out two of my unions. I can't revive because I would just get put in Raidlock. Ok, that's fine, I guess... until the dragon uses a move that restores half of its HP back.

I have 3 unions of 4 people @ BR41

* Rush / Generic / David / Generic - Unique Arts group (Omnistrike / Gae Bolg / Ex Machina)

* Torgal / Generic / Generic / Generic - Meat fodder group; misc. Healing/Revival

* Blocter / Generic / Generic / Pagus - Tank group; Blocter's Cyclone attack is beastly

I'm going to attempt it before the end of the first disc. I got cocky because I did the Validus quest in Baluuk and thought I could take the dragon. Another one I got owned on was the Ancient Dragon.

I tried and failed with 3 unions headed by Rush, Blocter, and some guy I hired that had healing spells and I was at BR 37. Got that fucker within 1/8th of health and he casts "Mend II" and his health goes up to 3/4 full :'(

I'm focusing on certain people because they earn Weapon Arts that causes them to deal upwards to 300k to bosses in one attack. Baulson has Heaven's Door, Torgal gets Cerulean Rain / Hawkarang, and Caedmon has one too. All beastly.

As far as grinding goes, what are you doing? I have heard some mention that you should avoid most normal enemies and focus on certain enemies and bosses. What is your strategy regarding this?

My biggest fear is that I will waste an entire playthrough because I did not grind properly, this is why I am asking

if it's like most of the Romancing Saga games, the level of the enemies depends not on your own stats per se but just on the # of battles you've fought, so you're encouraged to fight tougher battles (which will give you more stat boosts etc.) and avoid easy battles. it's probably not worth obsessing over though.

Is there a specific way to increase your HP? For some reason Rush has only 550 health at BR46 while all my other leaders have around 800.

Could just be how the individual characters grow. Put another leader in Rush's group to even things out.

Damn I just -embarassed- The Ancient War quest. Christ.

I went past The Nest of Eagles fight because you get upgraded to 6 leaders / 15 people - making 3 groups of 5, increasing my attack and HP.

I beat it at BR50. So if you are having trouble Kestatophe... try going past Nest of Eagles so you get more people.

Actually I beat the Ancient War last night after I did some of the quests that unlocked after Heroic Ramparts appeared on my map. I was at BR 48 or 49, and it was relatively easy, though i would not go so far as to say that I "embarrased" the Mantroskylo lol. That's badass though.

I got to that dragon from Pagus' Melphina sidequest last night. I only tried it once and was killed after about 10 turns, though I was doing 7000+ damage to him with each of my three unions. Was this guy a problem for you Demi?

I think I found out something neat. During a Loop Chance with Mr.Diggs, I think if you keep pressing the A button it increases/guarantees it working. Because previously it rarely worked but so far like 4 times in a row it's been working. It could also be a big fluke heh.

The leader thing refers to being allowed to have as many Leaders as you want in RESERVE, not in a Union. That would fucking break the game beyond recognition

So you don't have Hawkarang or Cerulean Rain yet Demi? Also, where do I get Platinum Ore? Fucking Dahveed keeps bugging me. I haven't found any yet, and I've visited all the stores up to Melphina, and have yet to come across any.
