Keanu Reeves set for 'Bebop'
Actor to star in live-action adaptation of anime

Keanu Reeves will star in a bigscreen, live-action version of Japanese anime TV series 'Cowboy Bebop' for Fox.

Keanu Reeves is taking on another sci-fi mission for 20th Century Fox. The "Day the Earth Stood Still" star is attached to topline a live-action bigscreen adaptation of the Japanese anime TV series "Cowboy Bebop" for the studio.

Reeves will take on the role of Spike Spiegel, an adventurous bounty hunter traveling through space in 2071.

Story follows the adventures of a group of bounty hunters traveling on their spaceship, the Bebop. Peter Craig has been tapped to write the screenplay.

Sunrise Inc., which produces the anime series, will be closely involved with the development of the English-language project. Sunrise's Kenji Uchida and Shinichiro Watanabe will serve as associate producers alongside series writer Keiko Nobumoto. Series producer Masahiko Minami will serve as a production consultant.

Erwin Stoff ("The Day the Earth Stood Still") is producing through his 3 Arts banner. Joshua Long will exec produce.

The television series first aired on Tokyo TV and Wowow in 1998. It eventually aired in the U.S. as part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block.

why do people give a shit? i like cowboy bebop, but if a live action movie turns out to be complete crap then why the hell would i give a flying fuck? it's like people think that they can't choose not to watch it.

also, there are many, many, MANY worse choices for spike out there than keanu reeves.

Actually, it sounds like the movie is going to be based on the Red Eye episode.

In any event, the film won't ruin the anime series, so I'm fine with whatever trash comes from this.

I'm not particularly upset that they're doing this or that they chose Keanu Reeves to play Spike, but I'd really like a good scifi action movie and rather than the absolutely rubbish we've been getting over the past few years. Unfortunately, from what I've heard so far, this will be another one for the pile.

Supposedly. Keanu isn't a bad choice -- he pulled off the noir thing relatively well in Constantine. Better than the entire cast of Sin City did (save Rourke), anyway.

lol I remember when people said that Trigun was on par or better than Cowboy Bebop then I start watching it and realize it stars the worst main character ever. The vilains and Wolfwood are 1000 times the man Vash the Stampede is. I remember when the flashback occurs and it shows Vash going batshit because a SPIDER'S GOING TO EAT A BUTTERFLY. "No, don't eat the butterfly! No!" but that's how spiders survive, Vash! If it doesn't eat the butterfly it'll die! "But, the spider KILLS the butterfly?! NO. NO. NO."

And don't get me on that dyke and the linebacker chick.

The only good thing about that show was the OP and the ending shootout, which owned. Hard.

I don't think Keanu is a bad choice. Is there a director attached yet?

Keanu may have a limited range most of the time, but I think a Spike-type character is definitely in his spectrum.
