I went there on my lunch break. Nothing is on sale and I think their TVs are the most expensive around.

They had a sign out front, "Ask us about no interest for 36 months".

Same. That register island layout is fucking horrible. Most of the newer stores, however, are set up more like Best Buy with regular checkout lines. The old stores are repulsive though -- I'll gladly spend a few extra dollars (in the event that something costs more elsewhere) just to avoid such an idiotic shopping experience.

Sears has a similar register island store layout and I've actually stolen shit from them before because I couldn't find a single employee on the floor to ring me up.

Yup, although I can't complain about getting Fallout 3 LE for $60 from there instead of the usual $80. I wish we would get some Fry's up here in NYS, but of course we're the last to get anything.

The problem with getting checked out at CC always seemed like it was due to people not really caring about you buying your low-margin videogame. The entire sales staff hovered around the cameras, phones, high-end audio, and televisions, where if they actually sold stuff they'd make some money via commissions.

The end comes as no surprise, of course. How can a company really justify firing their most experienced top earners and replacing them with wage slaves and expect to survive? Madness and incompetence.

Worst part about it is that I'm sure the liquidation sales are going to be "mark everything up 25%, sell everything at 15% off" and not even worth it. I went to my local CC a lot since PC games there were often sold soon after release at $10-$15 discount, hopefully I can make one more productive stop there before it closes for old times' sake.

I'm pretty sure I've stolen something at Sears before for that very reason. The worst is going to a vacant register and 'hoping' someone comes to take your money. Then they set up shop in Tools and yell at you across the store 'Sir I can help you over here!'

Sears is probably even worse than Circuit City in that regard. They at least still have (had?) commisioned salesmen so it was pretty easy to buy a dryer there. A lot harder to buy some gloves there though, unfortunately.

As much as I hated working there, this is true. CC was always a mess near me and their selection was meh.

In Lexington, the convenient store to go to for a while was Circuit City, located in Hamburg Pavilion right off of the fucking interstate. Then a furniture store burnt down and Best Buy leased the property and rebuilt the store, which pretty much ended Circuit City's dominance. Previously there was only one Best Buy near the mall in the middle of town and several Circuit Cities.

they always had those little checkouts near the game aisle but noone was ever there and you had to wait until they were done bullshitting suburban dads into buying desktops for like 10 minutes so they could unlock the display case

My parents did buy a tv and a refrigerator there, but that's about all they were good for. Any transaction worth less than $1000 was simply not worth your time there. They have been a terrible company since inception, although I'll miss them for various reasons it's not hard to see why they are going out of business. To compare them to an efficient operation (relatively) like Best Buy is a joke.

Shitty management but i still went there occasionally. here where i live its Best Buy. CC, or Walmart. Not alot of options and that sucks.

Liquidation sales aren't going to save you much here. Anything that's any good will be sold to other retailers at cost. Anything left in the store will be raised up to MSRP and have 10-15% off that. Like you found out, that usually won't even beat Amazon, much less be a sale.

Anything worthwhile will be gone 2-3 weeks from now when the real sales start, because people will buy the 'discounted' stuff without realizing they aren't getting a deal.

I was thinking about buying a laptop but apparently it's not gonna be worth it. When it drops to 20% off I'll check and see if there are any good games left, but just 10% off games is meh.
