The hatch was explained in Season 2 and the world of the Others was elaborated upon in Season 3. But I understand what you mean? The Black Rock, Adam and Eve, The Statue, Widmore, The Donkey Wheel, there's so much stuff.

In an article from TVGuide, they said that the statue would be very important this season. Then again they said it was supposed to have been explained in Season 4 I think. So we'll see.

SO pumped for this. 24 and Heroes have both been disappointing me lately, so hopefully I can count on Lost to deliver. I'm going to watch the premiere and then DVR the rest of the season so I can have one giant Lost marathon the night before the finale.
