Anyone have a typewriter?
« on: January 22, 2009, 09:49:56 PM »
I have money to spend and I think it'd be cool to have one laying around.  Anyone use one?  Any recommendations?

I was looking at this:

http://mytypewriter.com/olivettilettera22c1950.aspx

Fairly cheap, and I can probably find it used somewhere for even cheaper.

:lol  Holy crap, I have an Olivetti and would you believe I think it is the one you linked to.  I'm not sure if I have it at home or if it's at my mum's place.

I wouldn't sell it but I had no idea they were worth something.

That's a beautiful typewriter (the Olivettis all are) but you wouldn't want to type on it.

Why's that?  I know next to nothing about these things so I'm legitimately curious.

Do you plan on using it or it more of an art peice?

Probably a bit of both.  I'd like to use it for writing some songs and poems, but it's mainly for the feel of it all.

Why do you want a typewriter?  We have word processors these days.  Why don't you just go set trees on fire directly if you want to waste paper so badly?

The pink Olivetti?  I saw that a few minutes ago and nearly creamed my pants.

I think he's at that point in his life where having an old type writer and only buying vinyl records makes you cool. We've all been there.

My typerwriter phase was like a week when I was 17.  That week taught me that typerwriters suck ass and there's a reason they evolved into computers.

And vinyl is the only music I buy!

Hopefully when Cohen gets his Valentine he'll post some pictures with it hanging around his neck.

I'm still nuts about 7" singles, but I don't have room to store 12" LPs. Plus, they're not very car friendly.

You can if you use your body as paper.

i wonder if my parents still have their typewriter. they had a beautiful old black one that i used to mess around on when i was younger.

it's true that they are a pain in the ass to use, but i wouldn't mind having one for decoration in an office or something.

My god, i feel old now - I remember having to type reports on a manual typewriter, before I learned to touch-type. Sorry Genghis, it was hellish and I'm never going back.
