The top 10 is almost acceptable.  The Simpsons should get docked a few points though, since there are now more bad episodes than there are good.

REALLY?

Seasons three to eight are the funniest seasons of TV, outside of possibly prime Seinfeld and Arrested Development.

Also note the lack of Daria.

I was allowed to watch it when it first aired. I was like 5 or something. It was okay until seasson 2 or 3 when the language started to ramp up and Bart said stuff like,"Bitchin".

Did they change the VO for Spongebob?  I still like watching it, but it's pretty obvious they've been making it a whole lot more children friendly over the past two years or so.  When it first started it felt way more appropriate for adults to watch.

Same guy, but his voiced obviously changed (or he's doing it on purpose)

The worst part about new SpongeBob isn't so much that his voiced changed but that they changed his entire character. He went from a naïve but lovable character to an annoying prick who cries all the time.

We have a different appreciation for those shows because we were kids in the late 80s and 90s. I grew up watching Transformers, Voltron, Smurfs, He-Man, GI Joe, Jetsons, etc. Once the 90s hit I was watching the various comic cartoons - Batman TAS, X-Men, Spiderman, Silver Surfer etc. Plus stuff like Ducktales, Gargoyles, etc

Simpsons doesn't mean shit to me, but I realize it's defined humor and animation for many people. And the newer shows on there are heralded by younger folk. One of my little brothers lives and breaths for Naruto. Doesn't mean shit to me

And yes, for a time Pokemon was my absolute favorite cartoon

Who the hell is nostalgic about family guy?

If we were talking about the top 80's or 90's cartoons, maybe you'd have a point but this list is about all cartoons.  Obviously a list of your favorite shows would be subjective (they still have shite taste for liking FG) but they should have narrowed the list down to a genre or a decade.

Muppet Babies fucking ruled.  Himumu isn't old enough to be criticizing that awesomeness.

I loved Muppet Babies as a kid.

But I wouldn't put it in a top 100.

The list would benefit highly it wasn't just tv series. After all, Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry weren't even made for tv. If I made a top 100 toon list that included tv series, shorts, and film it would basically stomp all over this list.

But top 100 for a toon tv series list is far too broad. Also, this list is missing a lot of foreign stuff. It lacks Canadian cartoons as well as European cartoons.

This list just boils down to nostalgia, random popular anime series, and recent new series are popular. It's not an actually intellectual look at the best toons have to offer.

For an actually intelligent look at the best cartoons, this book is highly suggested. If you love animation at all, you should get it period:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_50_Greatest_Cartoons

I really wish they'd make a new one, not make it so old school oriented, and increase it to 100, maybe 200 toons. It'd be the ultimate book!

It's not really that they left off this or that series or had this or that series too high/low. It's more to do with their selection process. They list a ton of shows that kids grew up with in the 80's and mixed it in with a lot of new shows and some random anime. And, although in the title of the article it says "greatest animated series", it's really just series that were actually on American TV, which they should indicate in the title.

Mainly the people in this thread, and the GAF one. I'm not saying say...Family Guy has any nostalgic value for people. But with respect to many of the other entries on the list it comes down to nostalgia.

Loony Toons is perhaps the "greatest" cartoon of all time, but I wouldn't put it high on my personal list, neither would most people around our age. Kids who love the Simpsons today will fall out of love with it once they reach our age, and start boohooing about the "good old days" when the show was good. It's a cycle

I'd put Batman TAS very high on my list because its aged very well. I could sit down and watch it today, whereas I couldn't with Pokemon, at least not on merit; I'd just wind up remembering sneaking downstairs early every Saturday to watch, back in the good ol' days

Nobody cared about Gundam 0079 or Zeta.  Just Wing because of its debut on Cartoon Network.  No way the old 0079 series that followed would have appealed to its target audience, and that (shitty) list is clearly for shows that aired on U.S. television.

This has been going on for years, and by the way- The Simpsons started in the 80s.  It was made to appeal to people of all ages.  I haven't watched it in years, and quit because it just got old to me.  Life In Hell was always cooler.

Well that makes sense...Pokemon was always nothing more than a glorified commercial right from the start.  Much like many our beloved shows from the 80s that are quite horrible when you go back and watch them now.
