Should I bother with Crysis or skip straight to Warhead?
« on: January 24, 2009, 12:54:27 PM »
I tried the Crysis demo and my computer played it pretty well so now I wanna play it.
But should I just skip Crysis and play Warhead? I've heard Warhead is very much a better game.

what say you

You heard that from who?  I could barely make it through Warhead.  I didn't care for it at all.

play both

I wouldn't say Warhead is really much better than Crysis.  Both are great games and the only major difference is that Warhead has a faster pace to it.

I say don't bother with Warhead, stick to Crisis.

Warhead is a pretty crappy game actually.

If you're going to skip one of them, Warhead would be the one to skip. imo, it is a little worse in every way than Crysis. With that said, it is still a good game, just not as high quality as the original

Agreed with those suggesting to skip Warhead.  It's not bad, but the original is just so much better overall.  I've replayed Crysis many times, but I can't bring myself to do the same with Warhead.

Well Warhead was only 3.7gigs, so it was the quickest to get. It's pretty cool, but I think the graphics arent as good as the Crysis demo I played a while back. Still looks pretty good.
I'm running on highest resolution possible, no AA, few settings on Enthusiast and the rest on Gamer. Runs really well. Slowdown here and there but it's not too bad.

Will probably try and get Crysis now but I havent had much luck, all the torrents I tried wouldn't download. I got lucky with the Warhead torrent.

I enjoyed Crysis more than I did Warhead to be honest, but definitely play both of them. I pirated Crysis but bought Warhead only because Warhead has the actual standalone multiplayer game Crysis Wars (which is actually not bad).

For all of those new to Crysis it must be reiterated: do not use anti-aliasing.  It has a tremendous impact on performance while disbaling edge anti-aliasing for foliage.  Considering how prevalent foliage is in this game, AA can actually result in a much jaggier image.  If you get a new card, go for the highest settings...but do not touch AA (unless you prefer nasty looking foliage and low framerates).

yeah i turned it to medium and low and without the AA there wasn't that much of a difference.

i was a little concerned when my card started running at 90 degrees according to rivatuner.

Well, if you're using medium and low settings, you're card isn't strong enough regardless.  What I'm saying applies more to high-end cards.

yep, AA brought my machine to it's knees.

when i was extracting the crysis rar i got some errors saying a few files for some level were corrupted. I decided to just install anyway and it was successful. I forgot what level is missing the files so basically at some point something will go wrong. A level wont load or maybe some textures won't show up.

Makes playing all the more exciting.

As for the game itself. It's fun. I'm playing it like a FPS MGS game basically. I infiltrate all day and barely use my weapons. Right now I have to go get a boat and make it to an extraction point. I'm hoping the next mission is on the battleship because I'm getting tired of the jungle.

i like causing a commotion then when they come to investigate, pop them with silenced rifle and cloak and repeat.

i have only made it to the second "chapter" where you clear the school but so far the stragegy has been working

the ai is a bit smarter than i thought it would be though the cheap boat bitches with super binoculars and sniper 50 cals was kind of annoying

The mission where you take out AA guns was awesome. I got hung up on the last and had to literally take out every single enemy at the docks. Got really tense.

goddamn this game is a lot of fun.

i wish it was all Rambo stuff running around the jungles killing north koreans

i'm in this level where i'm in a cave having just left the excavation site and there's all kinds of prehistory animal sounds and the like.

i can definately see myself trying this on harder levels to gain new strategies, but my stealth shoot stealth move repeat sniping seems to be doing well enough

Honestly, the biggest difference on Delta Force (the hardest difficulty) is that you wind up spending a lot more time essentially surpressed and in cover while waiting for your energy to recharge. I didn't find the actual gameplay much harder on Delta Force than I did on Hard or Normal when I played with those two difficultly levels, only that I spent way more time hiding behind crap and in cover. It wasn't much more challenging, just slower, IMO.

Dear Crytek:

Please stop throwing monsters into your games. You suck at it.

Sincerely,
A very frustrated gamer.

Seriously. Far Cry was a fun game until the goddamn Trigens showed up. I pretty much stopped playing when I saw them.

Now Crysis isn't as bad when it comes to it, but it isn't any good. The aliens the put in Crysis suck. The first major alien level sucks. It's GORGEOUS to look at, but the gameplay is shitty. Shitty shitty shitty. From then on you fight just them and the game pretty much becomes uninteresting to play. The game helped me out a little by crashing after the alien ship level. I guess that's the level that's mission required files.

So now I'm on the last boss and I think it's broken or something. I'm firing all available ammo at it and it won't die. I just keeps doing a freeze ray at me. I've already read a few game guides and they simply say to shoot it until it's dead. WELL THATS WHAT I DO and it doesn't die. Fuck it.

Crysis was a 9 game when I first started. Now it's in 6-7 territory thanks to Crytek's unwavering boner for stupid monster bullship in their games.

Hold-over complaint total. The aliens in Crysis rock. Well, except the ending. You did pick up the super weapon, right?

it's not bad. I was surprised when I didn't completely HATE the vehicle missions. Normally vehicles stuff ruins perfectly good games, but they are good in Crysis.

bought warhead

i like the mission variety already

hate the vehicle missions though.  i bail on the vehicle and just maximum speed it for the exit

i hate that the aliens are in this one too and will be the inevitable focus of crysis 2. (if the ending cut scene is to be believed)

Has anyone played Crysis Wars? How is it? I think it's pretty messed up I have to buy Warhead to get it, but if it's good I'll consider it.

Why is it messed up that you have to buy a single player game to get the multiplayer aspect of the game?

I thought it was pretty meh tbh, and if you are considering Warhead just to get Crysis Wars, then I would recommend against it. I had lost of lag issues during the handful of games that I actually tried.

I feel it should have came with the original game, or have been offered to anyone that purchased the original.

The original had its own multiplayer.

Why, though?  The original came with a robust and enjoyable multiplayer component.  It's not as if they simply left it out completely.
