Do you have a bigger TV in your living room? If so, yes.  It's very pretty.

The bottom line is that this was just a demo, so why not take it as such? Who knows whether the full game will have all the awesome "come in and cover me" Gears of War shit?

I already tried the demo co-op, was not impressed. You might as well be playing two separate games. You each just stand there and mow down the zombies. Sometimes the game flashes HIT X TO SAVE YOUR FRIEND and you do a QTE and then you go back to shooting.

When you do co-op in something like Gears you're calling to each other to take position with a sniper, or to throw a grenade on your position, or to kill the guy who's trying to beat you down. In this game it feels pre-baked, like it makes no difference if your partner is a CPU or a human.

WOW HOLY SHIT

As far as graphics are concerned it's amazing. Nice clean 720p, great character models, awesome cinemas, and sexy temporal motion blur. Definitely the best-looking Japanese game I have ever seen without question.

But gameplay is  :(

Giving RE5 another chance, I'm enjoying it a bit more.  I actually prefer playing with the RE4 style controls, oddly enough.  The updated controls leave your left thumb doing nothing while engaged in combat while the classic controls keeps both hands engaged at all times.  It was a mistake to prevent the player from moving while a weapon is drawn.  Even if it were a very slow movement, I think it would have made quite a difference.

What will make or break this game are the scenarios presented.  I can deal with the control limitations if they can manage to deliver scenario design on par with RE4.  The RE5 demo is basically on par with the RE4 demo (presents the same type of scenarios to the player).  It's just a shame that the controls hold it back.

I didn't have a problem with Dead Space length, even if the last bit was doing the same task over and over

Dead Space's last level is horrible, made slightly less so by a cool-looking, but dull final boss.  A big poop stain on the whole thing.
I didn't think the final level in Dead Space was all THAT bad.  At the very least, it offered some of the best visuals and atmosphere in the entire game.  Still, I can certainly agree that it could have been handled MUCH better.

Gah I went back and played the other level.

It looks so good and the art direction is so consistent, but then you have these janky reused animation assets from RE4 (the noninterruptable enemy stumbles/hit reax) and they look soooo ghetto :(

Also, if you're holding "A" to run and push the stick to, say, the 8 o'clock position, you stop running and do a nice leisurely sloo-ooow turn :(

go watch the original MGS4 videos and compare those with the final.  Those Japanese have some moderately high ambitions.

I'm not talking about the MS Japan summit where they showed that first teaser. That was obviously BS. But E3 07 had a much different lighting style than the current build. It just looked much better.

But personally I think this game has been compromised aesthetically through and through. Seeing the "Arabs" (cubans) and whites number as many as the Africans strikes me as artificial, and there are 0 women in the demo. What?

The noninterruptable enemy hit animations are actually my biggest peeve in gaming.  It's like you're shooting them and it's doing nothing.  Really takes you out of the game.  Uncharted had that too although you could interrupt them with a headshot I think.  I really hope they get rid of it for U2.

In resident Evil it makes sense though.

These zombies don't exactly have working nerves, they can't feel pain. And i don't know if you know, but when you get shot, it's not like the movies, the bullet doesn't somehow... "push you", it just goes in.

It's true. It's not a joke post, i was just saying, if zombies existed, and you started shooting at them with an handgun they wouldn't be bouncing around, they would keep coming at you like nothing had happened. And they wouldn't stop whatever motion they were doing just cause they got hit.

Just sayin'

I wished they used the lightning color of the 1st trailer of the game.

The game does have rather dull and boring lightning now. It's weird considering how the lightning was supposed to be so important for the game.

The game is graphical showcase.  I don't the criticisms in that area.  Anyways, I'm going to try Control Type A and give it a whirl on the weekend when I have more time.  I love the series, even though I'm critical of the some of its recent design choices.

Nothing different to add; looks gorgeous, plays like shit, co-op is an uninspired two-man shooting gallery.  Dead Space won.

Had absolutely no desire to play past the first room where the axe dude attacks. Feels like the character is trying to move underwater. And the weapon switch controls are way too cumbersome. I know I'll still buy it though...

Use the d-pad for quick equip.  I kind of dig the real-time menu; keeps you from getting pulled out of the action to fool around in your suitcase, as was with previous games.

I think the series is a little too action-heavy anymore to allow you to dingle around, concocting brews and playing cache tetris while a pack of zombies are poised to chew your pickle off.  There's probably still a suitcase of some sort -- what's Resident Evil without collecting a whole bunch of goofy shit to fit together and unlock doors and whathaveyou?

It still looks pretty darn good.  At this point HD games fall into one of two categories for me:
1.  Lolz (90% of HD games sadly)
2.  This looks like X360 (the other 10%)

RE5 definitely falls in group #2 so I'm satisfied.

The d-pad option should freeze the game, though.  When you have shit still running around, having to navigate to your shotty, press "a," DO YOU WANT TO EQUIP???, press "a."

They should at least pause the game while you do this.

I'm holding off playing RE5 until it releases, but Dead Space did set the bar pretty high.

I hope RE5 can top it just because a game that's better than Dead Space would be amazingly awesome.

that was really bizarre...

When I played the RE5 demo on the 360 weeks ago, Type A always felt weird and I kept playing with Type D.  With the PS3 version, Type A felt more natural while Type D felt odd.  It's weird since I never played RE4 on the PS2.  What confuses me is that now back on the 360 version, Type A is feeling better.  I confuse me.

oh, and wow, yeah.  Either the PS3 version is a much earlier build or the versions are really different.  It's really noticable.

Two things

The PS3 version doesn't look anywhere near as bad as I had imagined, given the comments here. I haven't played the 360 version so I don't know exactly what the differences are, but going by media I have seen, this isn't bad at all. Haven't noticed much slowdown, but I never finished either mission so maybe that comes later. No terrible aliasing either, but hey, I'm playing it on a 32".

Much more alarming is how shit the game is. Four fucking control schemes, and not a single reasonable one. I think it's made a hell of a lot sadder by the fact that they tried so many options and still failed. Didn't they say something about pleasing the Gears crowd? Swing and miss. Dead Space shits all over this.
