And i don't know if you know, but when you get shot, it's not like the movies, the bullet doesn't somehow... "push you", it just goes in.

tell that to this thing:

The PS3 version doesn't look anywhere near as bad as I had imagined, given the comments here. I haven't played the 360 version so I don't know exactly what the differences are, but going by media I have seen, this isn't bad at all. Haven't noticed much slowdown, but I never finished either mission so maybe that comes later. No terrible aliasing either, but hey, I'm playing it on a 32".
I tested both yesterday and the PS3 version is perfectly fine.  The 360 version is a bit cleaner and suffers from less slowdown, but during most situations, you'd be hard pressed to spot the difference between the two.  I think most everyone will be pleased with both versions.

That said, I'm going with the 360 version.  The differences may be minor, but they matter to me.  It's also easier to enjoy co-op thanks to the VGA adapter (so I can bring a PC monitor into the same room as my TV).  I would be happy with the PS3 version, but if you have to choose, the 360 version is the best option.  Well, I would consider the PC version, but that would make co-op even more difficult than it should be.

Is anyone (around here) actually going to play the 360 version without installing, though?  Installation has become a routine for 360 gaming (for me) and it's a great thing.  I don't mind waiting to play a game if it means the loading will be faster and system noise reduced.  I can't imagine why anyone serious about the game would actually play from the disc.

Upscaling is for losers with shitty TVs.  :P

The PS3 version is jaggy, is missing a lot of effects, and has a shit framerate (vsync is on, it's not in the 360 demo). They're not "close" right now IMO.

Fuck Capcom for making me wait for a PC version though.

I'll get it for the 360, and later i'll get it for the PC...like i did with DMC4.

So yes, I'll be playing the game without installing.

not being able to upscale doesn't bother me but the framerate in the ps3 demo does

mandatory installs aren't that big of a deal but they are annoying

Side by side comparisons suggest otherwise...

The PS3 verison is not jaggy, it simply isn't as clean as the 360 version.  The image quality is still good.  The main issue with the PS3 version is that the type of AA it uses actually results in blurrier surfaces (making it seem as if textures are softer).

The effects are pretty much all there with the only differences really being attributed to the way the hardware handles certain effects.  All of the post processing and whatnot is in full effect in both versions (motion blur, depth of field, etc).

The ONLY problem with the PS3 port (and it IS a problem) is the fact that the framerate is worse.  It's not unplayable by any means, but the 360 version offers a smooth 30 fps while the PS3 version drops regularly.  That said, it is entirely possible that this could be addressed in the final version as this demo is based on older code (the original demo was released in December (Japan) on Blu-ray, so it had to have been completed well before that).

People really blow these comparisons out of proportion.  The differences we are talking about are SOOO incredibly minor when compared to multiplatform releases from any other generation.

Still, 360 version for me.

You really think it's a hassle?  It could not possibly be easier.  It's simply a matter of waiting a bit.  Are you that impatient that you would rather compromise your experience than wait a few extra minutes before starting?

Well, the image quality issue is interesting as the game disables anti-aliasing at times.  It uses quincunx AA most of the time (which is why textures appear softer), but it disables AA completely at certain points as well.  That contributes to the jaggy image quality.

Take a look.  Here are two captures from the PS3 version where someone managed to snap a very similar shot when AA was disabled.

The first shot is not jaggy, but the second one certainly is.  You can see that textures appear softer with AA enabled as well (a result of quincunx).  I believe this is why so many people have different opinions on image quality with this game on PS3 (it changes as you play).  In general, however, AA seems to remain enabled in most situations (despite framerate issues).  The 360 version uses a better method of anti-aliasing that does not blur textures and it is always enabled.

These are analog component captures...

I have no clue how to do it, so that time would have to be added to the experience. And I highly doubt I would know the difference.

Ignorance is bliss!

If you're not bothered by such things at this point, it's better to remain in the dark.  It's better if you don't get caught up in the details.

Dark, you're not correct. There are simple effects like dirt trails around the Axeman's feet missing. It's just not up to snuff right now.

Kev, think about that, though.  You literally have to be doing side by side screenshot comparisons to even notice.  I guess I have to chuckle when statements about differences are stronger than ever when the actual differences have never been smaller.  That said, I'm one of the very few that actually cares enough to avoid the inferior version and am glad that Capcom allowed everyone to see these differences prior to release (so that I could select the proper version).  I just don't think I would go so far as to say the PS3 version is a bad or even mediocre port.  It's pretty much on par with a few very slight differences and more framerate troubles.  I wouldn't be surprised to see these fixed in the final version, though.

The engine was made with XBOX360 in mind and the 360 GPU is a bit stronger anyways, so it's not surprising that things would end up like this.  The fact that they are so close at this point is great for those who only have PS3s.

I just don't think the framerate is very good. I mean, maybe you'll tell me that it's pretty close, but I know what I played and it was sluggish and messy. I expect it to be better in the final, but I don't agree with, "It's not as bad as people make it out." It gets really, really bad in Public Assembly. Add motion blur and the extreme depth of field crap the game already does and it is nauseating.

edit: And I'm not condemning the game. I just am commenting on the demo.

I take it back.

The game is really good when you play co-op with a friend.

Too bad the host/join system suck, though.

What, are they planning a control scheme E or something? Otherwise, it's bound to stay shitty.

in the OXM video on the 360, the guy said that you could shoot and move at the same time, but I think that was a blunder on his part.

Hi.  I have a 20gb 360.

 :'(

I might have enough space to install it, but that will go to Street Fighter IV if that's the case.

Alright, that is a little much. I'd love to hear a Kit Ramsey commentary on that clip.  :lol

Still, reliance on racial and tribal stereotypes in a dumb action game > the way Ubi handled the supposedly bloody serious Far Cry 2 setting.
