Raimi’s 'Drag Me To Hell'
« on: January 29, 2009, 02:55:31 PM »
Seems there was an early test screening.

Quote
The consensus seems to be that Raimi’s on to a winner. “It was 70% Army of Darkness and 30% Evil Dead,” says AICN’s Quint, “The movie isn’t flawless… the story’s been told before, etc… but goddamn it’s done in a really fun way by one of the genre’s best filmmakers.”

Quote
It was A LOT of fun and most definitely vintage Raimi at his best

Now I'm really looking forward to this.

I've been excited about this since it was announced, but that goes without saying.

What the fuck?!?  Really, Eric?!?

This was funny because Ellen Page was supposed to star in the lead, but dropped out after she got an Oscar nod for Juno because horror was too low brow for her newly refined artistic palette.

They should burn effigies of her in the movie.

Is life really that hard if you're Hungarian?  Without most of the luxuries of modern society, their simple, monotonous life must seem pleasant to them.  It's not like if they till more soil, they might be able to afford a new iPod.  There are no Apple Stores in Hungary!

Because of scheduling conflicts with his role on Burn Notice, Bruce will unfortunately not be in this one.  :-\

Yeah, after Spiderman Raimi is not on my good side.  If this is good I will believe it when I see it.

Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 were ace.  He made a dud, mainly because he didn't care for the source material.  I can get behind anything Raimi is passionate about.  It's not as if his talent suddenly dissipated.

That's disappointing, but it's nice to see some classic Raimi horror again.

Nice.  Maybe this will make up for those abysmal Spider-Man movies.

70% Army of Darkness? I thought this wasn't going to be a horror comedy.

That's all Raimi ever really makes.  Did you even watch the original Evil Dead?  It's hysterical.

The clip I saw awhile back made this film seem kinda amusing in an Evil Deadish sort of way. Isn't this film supposed to be PG-13 though?

Aside from the nudity, I think Evil Dead 2 would get a PG-13 today.

Army of Darkness is far more a comedy movie than the first Evil Dead though. Hell, I find it weird Army of Darkness is even considered horror at all. It has very little gore in it and very very few scares. That isn't to say I don't love it.

Army of Darkness I can see being PG-13 today but not Evil Dead 2. Too much blood spraying.

Raimi said on the commentary for Army of Darkness that it nearly was NC-17, which is insane.

Simple Plan was good too.  But yeah, he sold out and got boring/bad for many years now.

I totally disagree - it's just a more blatant slapstick film than Evil Dead.  I really can't take The Evil Dead seriously, as it has a ton of hysterical, intentional dialogue exchanges, tree rape, etc.

Raimi can't make a serious horror film.

It was because of some MPAA rule about self-inflicted injuries.
