hey, it was 1 am on Sunday and I had to write some papers for class the next day (plus get my sleep pattern back on track). I still think there are going to be a number of people who are not going to like this game, or at least be disappointed. If you really like what 3rd Strike did and don't feel you can go back to the older games, SF4 is not going to be for you.

Personally I prefer the older SFs to SF3, so I'm all over this, although I never played the arcade version much due to the roster; I like the number of characters that have been added to the home version, but am still disappointed in the new characters (and lack thereof). Abel is cool as hell, and C. Viper seems okay, but El Fuerte was "meh" and Rufus' design is god-awful. See Bob in Tekken 6 for how to make a cool fat dude.

I think if I'm going any problems with the game it will probaly stem from being so used to SSF2THDR now.

I'm going to be disappointed because it's not VF5-R and because there aren't 8,000 item pieces to unlock for my characters. But I'll live with what it is.

These are different pads though. Nyko made the previous ones, these are supposed to be MUCH better from all accounts.

I saw a video on Gametrailers where Gouken connects a Shin Shoryuken type of thing off a throw for huge damage, but it is his ultra combo, so I don't really know what to think of that.

Didn't VF5 pretty much bomb compared to 4? That may be why Sega hasn't released 5R.

I very much plan on checking EVERYONE out. In the arcade version, I wasn't really feeling my-normally main character, Chun-Li (similar to 3rd Strike...she may be god-tier in that game, but man is she BORING), and settled on Zangief (who I also like to use), but no one hit me as someone I'd want to main, so I'm looking forward to checking out all the home additions. Will give Chunz another chance too. I'm probably gonna use just about everybody except for Dhalsim and Vega anyway.

It's yet another company getting greedy with DLC. Except that this is NOT DLC, it's just Capcom charging money for UNLOCK KEYS. These outfits are all already in the game, this is major bullshit. It's not going to cost too much overall, sure, but it wasn't needed. They are already offering an LE version for $20 more! It's Soul Calibur IV all over again. At least there's no ~~exclusive 360 or PS3-only~~time-release unlock-key characters in this title.

They should have offered additional outfits not found in the arcade version (or a third for everyone) instead of this. But I'm a sucker and I will pay them for these outfits, and the cycle will continue. $:-\$

Unlocking shit in fighting games SUCKS. It should be there from the start; the point of these games is MULTIPLAYER. I hate it when 3D fighting games in particular make you go through the routine task of beating the arcade mode with every character just to unlock the rest. This really stinks when you get a brand new fighter and have to go through the bullshit before you have what is essentially the complete game ready to play. Stuff like endings and extra outfits, however, I don't mind, but when SF4 comes out for example, I'm jumping into multiplayer immediately. With online play the standard now, there's no point in playing single player anymore. It's always better against a human opponent.

With VF4 you're stuck offline. With VF5? Assuming you have the good version, you get online and play. Because that's where the challenge is. That's what these games were made for; single player is of course good for practice, but if you actually want to get good at fighting games, you need human opponents.

"Skins" is about right. These are just the alternate outfits for each character. The kind of thing that has been standard in every polygon fighter from day one...now has to be purchased. Forget SMH, this is ULTRA-HOMO.

I love the apologist defense of this: "Well, in the arcade version you have to spend a ton of money to get these!" Hey distinguished mentally-challenged fellow, in the arcade version, you don't have to PAY to OWN the game first. And you don't technically have to spend a lot of money if you don't suck shit...you get points for winning matches, you use the points to buy custom colors and the alternate outfits for your character. This is how the home version should be, but instead we have them making us pay real money if we want those outfits. And that is awful any way you slice it.

KOF XII won't do this.

i don't mind trash talk amongst friends, my friends and i were pretty merciless towards each other way back when

i used to be okay at sf2 on genesis, but i never played much sf beyond that, and these hands don't coordinate with these eyes like they used to

as long as i can occasionally squeak in a win i won't always be thinking about all the other games i could have spent $60 on

I'm always up for playing with anyone.

The good thing about SF4 is that it's a brand-new game. That is to say, it's not the third version of a previous Street Fighter, just with online added, like 3rd Strike was, but one that goes back and starts over again from scratch. Most people outside of Japan haven't even played it before, so there will be plenty of newbies out there, and if you start on it right at release, you'll get good faster than you think by learning with everyone else.

Playing HD Remix now might also make for good practice.

You don't need a headset when you play a fighting game. Just about anyone serious isn't going to use one anyway. I only put one on when I'm playing with people I know on occasion. Most Capcom online fighters even have an option to find or create matches with headsets turned off. In HD Remix, you'll likely wait a good while to find a match against someone who wants to use a mic versus almost-instantly getting a match with someone who has that option turned off.

Only the garbage use headsets and trash-talk. This can be added amusement if you are good, because then you can destroy the other player and laugh at them basically pissing themselves over getting owned.

A lot of the garbage players also tend to quit fighting games out of frustration within the first few weeks anyway. Give the game a month and the riff raff will be cleaned out.
