That's because the 360 version is the definitive version and noone wants the re-re offline version these days.
Well VF5's online mode basically dead now no? Sega really needs to put out VF5 R on consoles.

are you getting re5? 8800 yen!

Unlikely at this point. I've never finished an RE game, and there is a lot of stuff I want to play right now.

One thing I am reading that really SUCKS about SF4 is that the online is very basic-- just one on one matches, no rooms.  No spectating.  No tournament modes.  Pretty  :-\ coming off of HD Remix.

But I am still giddy like a schoolgirl waiting for my copy to show up in a matter of hours now.  Fedex sez before 10:30am but I bet they won't come until the late afternoon.  FANBOY SUFFERING  :'(

Hey this just came out a few hours ago here in Japan

Too bad it costs 7980 yen for the 360 version...blech, I'll wait for used (you know it's gonna be down to 3480 yen in a few months)

I wish I had the patience or I would have held off on so many big Japanese releases.   :lol  But if you do want it sooner, there's always the cheaper Asian version hitting next week!  No way I could have waited on SF4 though.  Plus in a few months people are gonna be too damn good online; I wanna get on it ASAP and start getting into the game hardcore.

I ended up ordering the saturn pad over the fightpad. Right decision?

I heard the d-pad on the MadCatz controller was pretty shitty.

If you've ever used a Saturn controller, you know how good the d-pad is. The only problem with the Saturn controller is that it's kind of small.

I think the SNES pad would be perfect if the top row of buttons was the same size as the bottom, it had a select button, and the shoulder buttons were a bit better.  As is it's still the best 2D controller there is.

No way, the Saturn and Neo-Geo CD pads are the best ones ever made.

I want to wait too, but I'm not going to. I'm stupid and will pay that full price AND probably buy the DLC costumers for the ladies. Hopefully I'll have some points on my card to get the price down.

I already have 1600 Japanese MS points waiting on my J-account for all the costumes.   :-[  I'm such a sucker.  Forget Soul Calibur IV, I bought all the DLC for RUMBLE ROSES.  Don't even want to think about how much that cost.   :lol

Well VF5's online mode basically dead now no? Sega really needs to put out VF5 R on consoles.

I haven't checked in a while, but I don't see why it would be dead.  Fighting game players typically don't just up and leave games until a new version comes out.

So I haven't played a SF seriously since SFII. Are there any things I should know before going into this? Like, are there any good guides to the new systems or anything?

Check out iplaywinner.com or wait for the guide going on 1up (MyCheats?).  Shoryuken.com is also a good place to go for strategies and info.  Besides the basics, what you really need to get down is the focus attack system (both medium buttons together).  You can do all sorts of stuff like "parrying" attacks.

Kinda expected after Capcom announced the first real DLC pack as a tournament mode "enhancement" (which apparently means ADDING one), but still a bummer to hear it's so bare bones out of the box.

SNES is a typo.  I thought the complaining about different button sizes and lack of select button helped clear that up  ;)

and the neo geo pad is great for fighting games.  that's pretty much it.

Questions for you guyses:

-- The arcade version had like 3 backgrounds. Does each character have a background? Is there an appropriate amount of content here?
-- Is it multilingual for text and voice?

They added at least one new background into the home version, but I dunno about it for everyone.  I kinda doubt it or people would have said that by now.  One thing about the arcade version is that it would almost never go to some backgrounds for some reason.  I could never really hear the music in the arcade version, but besides the stage BGMs, everyone has remixed versions of their old themes when fighting rivals.  I have no idea if you can get this music in versus.

It's a fighting game, so you've got the standard arcade (now with anime intros and endings), versus, online, and training modes.  There's also a challenge mode.  One cool option is that you can have it set so that other players -online- can interrupt an arcade match, which is a fucking AWESOME idea.  Makes it just like playing in the arcade that way, and beats just sitting at a wait screen.  It's also VF5-like with its rankings, so you should (can't confirm this though) be able to add custom quotes and that kinda crap to your profile.  Besides the now-DLC costumes, you can also unlock more character colors too.  And they made the new characters "hidden" with each being unlocked by beating the game with a default character, Tekken style.

From what I am reading, on 360 the game will default to English if you have those settings on.  PS3 seems to have NO language text option (WTF?), although in both games you can change the voices to English or Japanese.  Apparently you can also unlock a setting to change a single character's voice to Japanese or English, too, which is pretty cool.

So does it feel like a whole game or a beta? (To me the arcade release felt like a beta cuz of the lack of backgrounds)

Or does it feel like something like SC4 or VF5, which has crazy amount of fun content and extra quest modes?

All right, I can confirm that the 360 version defaults to English, and that the voice options for Japanese and English are there from the start.  You can even have English voice just during the anime cut scenes if you want!

The DLC 124kb unlock key costumes for the five "brawlers" showed up right away. They get 10 different costume colors immediately.

I already posted a bit about it a few days ago.   ;)  It looks GREAT and plays much better than the Wii version does.  Nothing is missing; you get the same game in portable form with far better controls.

Something keeps telling me "IT WILL BE 2480 YEN NEXT MONTH" despite my urges to play it. As much as I love the play-single-player-and-get-interrupted-by-some-random-guy-on-XBL feature. Maybe I am getting old :(

I think it's such a big release that if you're not gonna get all hardcore-crazy, you probably should wait since it likely will reach Metal Gear or VF5 levels of cheapness quick enough.  There's no way this is gonna be another Xbox Anniversary Collection and only go up in price, anyway.

I did an install and it takes 5.7gb of HD Space.  Virtually no difference in load time, but I just wanted to do it to reduce any strain on my system.  I think I may gather up some crap lying around (Resistance 2, MK Vs. DC, etc.) and go sell it all off towards a new HD.

The D-Pad?  It's gotten almost universal praise.  It's not perfect - it is a little floaty.  That said, it's the best thing out on the market and is still a damn fine D-Pad.

This magic, amazing flawless D-Pad of Saturn caliber will never be readily available.  You will have to make due with it being REALLY FUCKING GOOD instead.  Woe is me.

And no offense, nobody here is that good, to the point where playing with the Saturn pad over the MadCatz one is going to make them more competitive.  We're talking negligible difference to vast majority of players.

I.  LOVE.  THIS.  GAME.

I didn't really get a chance to get used to the focus system when I was playing the arcade version, but playing for hours today has gotten me used to it...and I FUCKING LOVE IT.  PWNIN SCRUBS ALL OVER THE FUCKIN PLACE...WITH CAMMY!   (And Gief too)

distinguished mentally-challenged fellows just WALK RIGHT INTO FOCUS ATTACKS.  Of course, there's always been ways to stop stupid shit before, but focus attacks are much easier to do than say, parries.   This one guy picked Guile and went for the classic Sonic Boom spam/Flashkick turtle crouch position.  I just got close, focus attacked THROUGH his projectiles and knocked him out of his flash kick.  EVERY.  TIME.  OVER AND OVER.  I was rolling.  Cammy is just AWESOME in this game.  Her cannon spike comes out insanely fast, much like HD Remix, and her new air cannon spike (basically a downward spiral arrow) is great for jumping in.  It looks like the EX spiral arrow goes through projectiles, too.  When I started using her, I was racking up wins.  I am already at the 50 wins achievement in a very short time.

In fact, achievements seem pretty easy to get.  I already have 20/48.  You can get a number of them just from playing offline in versus with the other player acting as a dummy if you want.  It seems pretty accessable in that regard.

I was never as big into 3rd Strike (or SF3 overall, although I still love the aesthetics and audio from New Generation and 2nd Impact), but fuck it now.  Seriously, FUCK IT.  They surpassed it...focus attacks are implemented much better than parries.  And while the game has its top tiers already (and more to come), it still is far more balanced compared to 3rd Strike.

Also, it's pretty weird they are keeping up this difference in the names between versions. I know it's legacy now, but there has to be a point where it will cause some grievance, esp. now we're all playing together.

It's pretty cool, technically, that it switches automatically depending on your system settings though 8) But why the boxer is not called M.Bison, I will never know, esp. now Tyson is essentially out of the business.

On the fightin' gamin' internets, people have dropped using their names all together and just refer to them as "Boxer, Claw, and Dictator" to avoid any confusion.  With the dragon punch motion, it's just gonna take practice.  The 360 pad isn't the greatest as we all know, so anything would be an improvement, although I was playing HD Remix just fine with it.  If you can't do certain moves well, keep practicing, and if you're having trouble doing them in the middle of a match, drop using them until you feel comfortable with it.  I guarantee you if you get into the focus attack stuff, you'll be able to pwn scrubs with ease, dragon punch or not!

360.  I hear the PS3 version's netcode (once again) isn't as good, although I am still getting it when the U.S. version hits.

The game is NOT as smooth as HD Remix online, but the majority of the matches I have had have been great and lag-free, which is good considering the majority of them have been versus players in Asia.  You can set the game to find connections based on the best connections or language preference.

The option to have people interrupt your arcade matches is genius.  Just set it on, play the CPU, and plenty of people will challenge you.  No need to wait at the match-up screen searching for matches if you don't want to.  AND they were smart enough to let you decline matches if the connection is shitty and return back to arcade mode at the opponent you were facing (starting the match over)

I still need to unlock Gouken and Seth, and get all the colors and poses unlocked.  It really doesn't feel particularly time-consuming, but they should have at least had all the characters unlocked from the start.

Played for a couple of hours last night with some friends who basically hadn't played fighting games since SFII (like me.)  It was a blast, although we were unable to figure out Super and Ultra moves.  Using the focus moves brought another level to the game.  We were playing with the analog stick on a regular 360 pad, worked a lot better than the crosspad but obviously it's still not ideal.  Hopefully I'll be able to pick up a pad this weekend, I'm looking forward to digging into this game.

Anyone, and you can set it to be challenged in either ranked or player matches.

Basically, you get a meter for super moves by doing offensive stuff to your opponent, and you get a meter for ultra moves by getting hit by your opponent.

I read the Ars article on the sticks, and I think I'm going to get the $80 stick, but then drop like $20 on better buttons which I think will basically be awesome.

it's probably going to be fine. i played a lot of hd remix on a doa4 stick, which genuinely IS shit, i could still nail my inputs for the most part, and sf4 is much more lenient. i <3 my modded hraps, but i don't think arcade-quality gear is really necessary for casual play

I would never spend $80 on a MadCatz product.

Are your hraps for 360, PS3, or both?

both, kind of unnecessarily -- bought the hrap 3 first cos it was such a good deal, but then gravitated towards the stronger competition on 360, and wanted an equivalent stick there

Prole, I never said the $80 model sucked - on the contrary, I hear it's quite good.  I just said the tourney stick is better.

Can't you mod the regular stick with better parts?  I might get into that too.  Fuck, it's gonna be expensive.

It's impossible to find inf you haven't pre-ordered, though.  I looks great, but I personally cannot come to spend 150 bucks on a fight stick.
