Why don't you just get the gamepad, dude?

i don't want to spend an extra $40 on a game that there's an 80% chance i will scream curse words at and sell in two weeks

if i am digging it i'll pick up a pad later

the d-pad on the pictured controller works pretty well, i use it on some arcade games and on pc sometimes

the button placement is a bit awkward, but i'm so terrible at fighting games in general that i doubt a fight pad would help - it would probably just end up being a $40 reminder that i suck

if it was from the same group I got it from, then it isn't really a 100% match of the Saturn pad.  Most noticeable difference are the shoulder buttons being shit now.

Here's the guy I got it from:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110346952386&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the shoulder buttons... although they are different from the actual Saturn pad shoulder buttons.

how do you do kens ultra?

Hit start.  Look at his move list.  Ultras are typically the sam as supers, but with all three punches or kicks.

beat it nvm

so how do you cancel moves?

If you have a super stored, for example, you just do one special move and quickly do the motion for the super move in the middle of the special.  The new way to cancel in this game now is by using the focus attacks.  So for example with Ryu, you do a shoryuken, CANCEL in the middle of it into the focus attack, and then cancel out of the focus attack into his super/ultra.  KER-AZY.

If Capcom was serious about making this game more casual-friendly, they failed big-time.

I never played with a saturn 6 button but the shoulder buttons on the original saturn pad were garbage.  Thank goodness these buttons aren't like that.

yeah, I think that's the same one I got.

the shoulder buttons are a lot more clicky now and less responsive.  It's a non-issue for fighting games since everything else is great, but yeah, for emulators and such it isn't as good as my Saturn pad through a converter box.

Jesus christ I might as well stop playing now.  I can't even get my ryu super out (well got it once in training.)

:lol I was leaving feedback for the guy, and I realized that he probably doesn't speak any English and he might end up running what I said through a translator.

So I did the Zero Wing thing and entered the feedback I was about to leave, "Awesome product. Thank you very much" into Google Translate and it came back as "Terrible product. Thank you very much."

I would like to echo your frustrations. I was such a noob that I didn't even know what hcf and qcf stood for, and I was unable to find anything that explained what they stood for. I eventually found a faq that explained it, but it took a ton of digging.

Let me know if you think the pad is worth it.  I've been getting a lot of mixed signals from people and I don't really need a pad since I have an arcade stick for X360 and arcade stick + saturn-style pads w/usb adapters for PS3.  But I'm still tempted to get an X360 pad for shmups.

Seriously, this is what is frustrating about the whole SF thing from a complete scrub/noob point of view.

NONE of this really makes much sense. ONce we get to "cancel out of..." "focus attack into..." we're lost.

I just want a site that starts from ZERO :/

the combo lyte edge is referring to is shoryuken -> hold mp+mk as soon as the shoryuken hits, double tap forward, then release mp+mk -> immediately do the ultra. i can do it in training, but it's hard to get in a match -- obviously it's extremely useful if you can learn it

'cancelling' generally just refers to interrupting the animation of one move by performing another move -- cancelling normals into specials is how the most basic sf combos work, e.g. ryu's low mk -> hadouken. each character will have certain normals that can be cancelled into specials, and you can generally find them just by experimenting in training mode. i actually don't know of a very comprehensive sf4 guide, but there's some good stuff at www.iplaywinner.com

FINALLY got Gouken unlocked.  The trick seemed to be getting four victories with ultras as opposed to just two (plus a perfect) as mentioned before.  If you're having a hard time winning every round, remember that you can get to Akuma and Gouken by playing on just one round, and you can also do the old second-controller trick; just hit start on the second pad before you lose, beat up the character, and you'll go back to previous CPU fight with no losses counting against you.   :)

They really did something to this game's difficulty.  It doesn't make much sense that even on very easy, I can get perfect after perfect, then get my ass handed to me, then get a perfect again.  Seth is a complete fuck-head, too.  It's funny that he will own me left and right when I use some characters, but then I can perfect Akuma or Gouken after.   ???

I think Seth is actually easier to beat on the medium difficulty setting than he is on very easy.   :lol

just got this link from another eb thread: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=176026&page=3

impressions of the prototype were positive, but it sounds like mc fucked up in manufacturing. wouldn't recommend spending $80 on it. if you don't want to buy an hrap, maybe go with an entry level hori stick (ex2, doa4 stick, vf5 stick -- all basically identical). i've got one and it feels kind of cheap, but at least it works

T EXP- I don't think it will bomb.  It'll sell pretty well for a game that came out in the second half of February during a recession.  Lots of fighting fans will pick it up, fo sho.  Will it move SC type numbers?  We'll see.

Where do you get the SF4 faceplate?

Willco (or anyone else with pads,)  anyone else notice a difference between which side you're playing on?  I got an hour of PT earlier today and was loving it, but I read someone on GAF complaining that the pad didn't perform so great from the right before it got broken in.

Tiesto, I'm gonna be using mine on the Sega collection too  :-*

Federwang, you better never bring a girl into that room.  Just sayin!

Planning on it tomorrow.  I will just keep the lights off! :shh

Tet, you do need to break in the right side of the D-Pad, because it does feel a bit firmer than the left side - still relatively soft, but the diagonal recoil is not as quick as the left side.  After working it out for a bit, it feels really good, though.

Bottom line: break it in and you'll have no problems - do not expect perfection out of the gate.  I'm not sure if it's a product flaw or a legit design choice.

I picked up the faceplate at GameCrazy when I picked up my pre-ordered gamepads.

Played some games with Drohne!  It's nice to play people who are good!  :bow Drohne's Guile :bow2  In the 200+ matches I've had now, it's been Drohne and a friend of mine, plus this one guy who was rockin' the FADC and a few others.  That's it...I'm not bragging, believe me.  It's just that there are so many bad players online right now.  Good chance to get those BP levels up fast!

Willco, where did you get that long poster from?   :o  It doesn't come with the face plate by any chance, does it?

I'm so weaksauce.  I don't think it will affect emulators and other games that benefit from digital controls, it's just street fighter with it's sweeping motions.  I wish the 360 supported that PC Saturn pad :(

I went downtown to pick this up today, only to find that SF4 doesn't come out in Korea for two more weeks. FML.

good games yesterday lyte. you were kicking my ass at first, but i feel like i learned a lot in just those 15 or 20 games we played -- it's tempting to play it like super turbo, but it's really very different. it takes some time just to learn...like...where to jump in from, how much distance you need to safely throw a fireball, etc

talent level on live is definitely pretty low right now, though it seems like you get better players in custom ranked matches than quick matches
