I won't bother with ranked matches until I learned all or most characters. I could play fine if I used Ryu, Ken, Sagat, few others from SF2, but a lot of new and old ones I'm awful with. It doesn't help that I only do random.

Yeah, baby! Just went 2-0 in ranked play, and one of those matches was against a pretty good opponent. I love the FighterPad. I'm going to return one for the Hori arcade stick, though. Some of the characters' moves are too hard to pull off even with the circular, floating D-Pad.

For those not going the MadCatz route on the 360.

You can get the HRAP EX--the 360 HRAP--at Amazon. They're pricey, around 130 bucks, but I'm loving mine. It has a Sanwa joystick, which are arcade grade parts, with Hori buttons, but you can easily replace them with arcade buttons if you choose to.

The other widely avaliable Hori stick --well before the SFIV hype-- is the Fighting Stick EX2, which is the stock Soul Calibur 4/DOA4 stick. It retails around 60 bucks. You can mod it but it requires soldering for the stick and the buttons are not easily swappable. It's currently sold out in Amazon.

The fighting stick is good value IMHO. If you can't find a TE stick the HRAP EX is an excellent stick and comparable in quality to the TE stick, especially if you replace the buttons, and widely available.

Yeah, Namco released Vader on 360 and Yoda on PS3. Unlock keys as well I am sure, especially since there was always a spot for one more character on the select screen.

I've been suffering with the analog stick/dpad... got the game yesterday night but they didn't have any pads in stock. Today I'll trawl around Nassau looking for one. Been playing online, seems everyone is playing as Ryu and Ken, go figure. I've been attempting Sagat and C Viper, haven't won very much but still practicing. I really like the countering/focus attack system. The music is cool too, hell even "Indestructable" is growing on me.

Any tips on beating Seth in arcade mode?

Seth sucks - what a punk bitch. I'd constantly create a ton of space and wait till he did that sucking motion or dumb Dhalsim punch, then go in with a kick and sweeping roundhouse. Keep him at bay with specials. Rinse, lather, repeat.

I don't really have a bunch of extra money right now, since my freelancing has dried up almost completely over the last couple months (2G2D, natch) and I know I would probably just get annoyed with my lack of a) anyone to play against since I know just about no one in town and my modem hates me when I try to sign up for XBL and b) I'd have to shell out another $40 at least for a fight pad.

I ended up getting a PS3 CE at Best Buy after all. They only had three CEs (behind the counter); I told them I had reserved one but lost the receipt, didn't care about eating the $5 blah blah blah, and the guy gave it to me. Since they had no problem with this, it tells me that anyone could walk in and say the same thing.

Saw maybe 5-6 copies of the regular version on the shelves.

I would get the CE if you care about the movie. The box is flimsy as hell, the Ryu figurine is tiny n' crappy (and mine is scuffed up), the "collector's hint book" is just a few pages, and the included unlock key for the first costume pack doesn't even work right now (

). But the Blu-Ray comes in its own nice case, with space for the soundtrack CD (which has the character themes only, no stage themes), which is nice I guess. The Japanese version (no CE, you get the DVD regardless) just comes in a clear CD case.

There's no sync option in the first place!

The weird thing is, I switched to HD Remix and it WORKS FINE for the most part. Then I got to SF4 and it's fucked up.

that's weird

HD Remix and SF4 do feel different even when pulling off the same moves. Like, pulling off a dragon punch is much easier in SF4, but doing a super is harder.

If you can't set the music to individual stages, I don't care. That would have been a cool option and made the CD from the CE "worth it" in that you can assign character themes to stages. Oh well...

Okay, my PS3-owning friends talked me into getting the PS3 version, with the promise that one of them would buy it from me for $50 if I end up hating it. Since I'm using $10 worth of Best Buy reward zone coupons, this will end up costing me sales tax to try. Good enough.
