If you're using a controller and having trouble hitting all three buttons simultaneously, try mapping all the punches to a trigger or something.  You'll just need to be more careful to avoid accidentally dragon punching, though.  Be sure you're getting that last forward input in before pressing the button(s).

Yeah, be careful with that.  Don't be so quick to hit the ready button until you see what the settings are.

BP whores.  Such BS.  To circumvent that I'd recommend creating your own games.  I always create my own game, because the of the lack of lobbies.

What bullshit - I finally got to Gouken, beat his ass and I don't get to play as him?  What the fuck, Capcom!  Fuck you!

Also, this game is dying for a more robust online system.  The code is ace and the gameplay is fantastic, but no lobbies?  No real matchmaking dependent on skill level?  C'mon.

The method to unlock Gouken is weird.  There's been so much confusion on the internet about unlocking him.  I heard that you had to finish him with an ultra and then you unlock.  I was skeptical, but I tried it just in case and he was unlocked.

Unlocking Gouken was such a pain in the ass.  Seth is worse, though.  I really hate unlocking characters in fighting games.

It wouldn't surprise me if Gouken was supposed to be intentionally obtuse to unlock, just like the Sheng Long April Fools joke.

You need to beat arcade mode with Akuma first  :yuck

Just came across someone using Seth in an online match after all this time.  He was even easier to beat than the typical Ryu/Ken scrub.

I unlocked Gouken by beating it with Akuma, then beating it with Akuma again.

On easiest, you can just fireball them to death for perfects first two fights (if you can't just destroy them), and his ultra is very very easy to finish the computer with.

I did 2 perfects and 4 ultra finishes to unlock Gouken.

Also, Gouken isn't really all that cool IMO, even though he stole Ryu's 3S true dragon punch.  :-\

I used Ryu.  One round matches on Easiest; two perfects, three ultra wins, stomped Seth, stomped Gouken, no unlock.

what I did was unlock Akuma with Ryu; do arcade mode with Ryu, 2 perfects, 2 ultra; finish arcade with Akuma; do arcade mode with Ryu again, 2 perfect, every other fight ended in ultra, and I unlocked Gouken.  I never fought Gouken without getting him.

I'm trying to help you here so please don't mind if I reiterate:

Did you fight against Gouken with a character that you've already beaten arcade mode with? Did you beat arcade mode with Akuma?

Those two are necessary steps in order to unlock Gouken.

I have Akuma unlocked and you have to beat it with Ryu to unlock Sakura, so yes.  I probably need to finish it with Akuma -- I'm guessing that's the missing link.

Is there something wrong with the game's connection speed recognition or does this sound more like trouble on my end: I haven't played a single person in quick match with more than ZERO bars, but other than a few here and there, they've all ran fine.  When I invite a friend into my lobby, their connection speed is usually about four or five bars, other than Willco, who I can't seem to connect to at all ("unable to join"), and the games don't seem to run noticeably faster than a lot of my zero bar quick play matches.  what da deal?

What does the 360 say your nat type is?

Me too. The Zero bar matches have also very little lag. ITs bizarre. The whole lobby system blows.

Yeah, I'm totally unable to connect with RoboJ - which is totally odd since I am playing Left Coasters half the time with no problems!  This seems to be a Xbox Live problem, since we can't chat or join a party either.  I reconfigured my router and everything.  Totally fucking bizzare.

The only thing I can sort of guess is that since maybe we use the same local ISP (we live relatively close to one another and I gather he's using Comcast), that that is the problem.

A crowd of guys came over to play their PS3 copy in the games area at lunch today; as my friend and I wailed through a Rock Band 2 session to finish up lunch, they excitedly plugged their wired Sega Controllers with adaptors into the USB port on the PS3, and fired up the game, looking forward to some action in the final 15 minutes of their lunch.

...And then the PS3 began its installation-to-hard-disk routine. :rofl

Combine wait times from uninstalled copies with online load times, and you get some nasty wait times.  I've waited 30 seconds for a match before!

you fuckin killed me today -- i don't know if it's your offense or your throws, but somehow i just freeze up when i'm playing you. LOTS of stuff beats guile's flashkick in this game -- crossups, deep jump-ins, certain jump-ins from any distance, certain specials that flashkick used to own. the trick is to use flashkick, ex flashkick, down+fierce, jumping fierce, air throw, focus attack, etc. depending on the situation, all of which should combine to give a good guile a solid defense, but as you saw i haven't, uh, quite mastered it yet

i definitely need to start using d+hp as my primary antiair rather than flashkick, but as soon as i start thinking down+hp, i start eating chun's overhead special, which i should be able to flashkick on reaction :'(

Possibly. He was the most overpowered character in SF2 so i guess they wanted to have him be the most nerfed in SFIV. Karma. All that.

Yeah, *SF2*.  Like, vanilla-original SF2.  Certainly not in the later versions.

Some of the toned-down stuff I like though.  Or rather just watching people try to play certain characters (Boxer, Claw) like Super Turbo and then punishing them for it is fun.  Same with players who try to play Fei Long like HD Remix.  I felt sorry for this one Boxer player who was trying to abuse his headbutt throw.   :lol

So is it *hold back 2 sec*  tap forward, tap back, tap forward + kick?

Or do I have to press forward for a beat after I charge?

Charging motions are taking a bit to get used to on the fight pads  :'(

360s and 720s are actually much easier in SF4 than in previous games due to the lax input requirements, but you'll still have some difficulty doing the super from a standing position if you're unfamiliar with the technique.

The easiest way is to do an empty jump in on your opponent and roll the 720 on the way down, pressing the buttons when you land.  After you get that down, you can move on to buffering the 720 during other moves, like the green hand or a forward dash.

I suppose it might help to know that the "360" and "720" rolls are not actually full 360s or 720s, but that may be complicating things.

edit: If it's just the fightpad that's giving you trouble, try changing the directional pad toggle from d-pad to left stick or vice versa.  Might have better luck with the inputs.

It's that exactly.  I notice that I have some difficulty doing it on the fight pad too since it's so loose.  Before I had a PS3 pad I was able to do it with no problem with a PS3 controller.

Pftt.. Try Giefs super. Ive tried the real way and the cheat way and i still cant do it. God freaking damnit.

Pfft.  Easy as shit.  What Robo J said.  The trick here is that it's not really a full motion.  For example if you want to do a 360, just do a half circle back and then immediately hit up and punch/kick together.  It will work every time and you'll find that you're no longer jumping around trying to get it to come off.

I bought the CE and I still haven't watched the anime--I heard it's terrible.  I haven't even watched the prologue and ending movies, even though I beat it with everyone.

I've been playing with the new characters more of late--Rufus, El Fuerte, and Viper.  I'm really impressed by El Fuerte's game.   His stamina sucks but you can really play some mind games with him.

It's nonsensical, boring, and awful.  Like most animu!

No, really.  It was pretty bad.  Wouldn't waste my time with it.  I liked the original SF2 animated movie, but the rest have all stunk.  This one follows that trend.  It focuses on Ken, Guile, Chun-Li, and C. Viper, and also features Ryu (everyone is looking for him, dark hadou, zzzzzzzzzzz), Sakura, Cammy, and Seth.  It's a prequel to the "story" in the game although it also fucks up continuity.

The animated intros and endings in the game are a hell of a lot more fun to watch.

So far, online players are dumbfounded whenever I pick Balrog. I love playing as that disrespectful asshole. :lol

Haha, I was playing a certain infamous friend last night, who was clueless as to what to do against him.  I think I am gonna switch to beating him down with Sagat to Balrog.   :lol

I actually thought it was alright. Not as good as the old SFII anime, of course, but fair. Not a lot of fighting, though - go in knowing this is a preamble to SFIV.

The art and animation is a shitload better than what you see in the SFIV character intros/endings. That stuff is godawful.

Haha, I was playing a certain infamous friend last night, who was clueless as to what to do against him.  I think I am gonna switch to beating him down with Sagat to Balrog.   :lol
I've been switching between M. Bison and Balrog. I love the charge characters. I was also using Chun Li before, but she takes time to learn. I'm trying to figure who else to use. I tried Guile, but I can't pull off his ultra. His and Vega's are the only ultras that I have problems with.

Btw, I finally tried out Ken today and now I realize why so many people use him online. He's fast, ridiculously easy to learn and to combo with. Too bad most Ken players online so far do the same predictable shit.

it's useless anyway. i can only land the damnable thing when my opponent misses his ultra or whiffs a fierce srk or something

FUCK I am so fucking pissed off at these noob fucking scrub Ken and Sagat players...WHAT THE FUCK

Okay so I main Sakura, she's weak, but I like her and she has some good combo's etc.. but these guys do nothing but spam the same fucking moves over and over, and mostly I punish them, but they only have to get off 1 or 2 moves to drain my fucking HP.

FUCKING LOSERS DIE IN A FIRE

I played like 7 matches after our tourney fights and won probably no more than 5 rounds.  He plays an insane Dictator.
