Irritatingly bad rap lines

ok, find me a more atrocious line in rap than the following:

'i set the microphone on fire
rap styles vary*
i'm carey**, like mariah'

*(pronounced 'varry')
**(pronounced like 'jim carrey')

Wu-Tang Clan, 'Da Mystery of Chessboxing', Enter the Wu-Tang Clan

Or 'Accordion' on Madvillainy:

'slip like Freudian/your first and last step to playing yourself like an accordion'

every single time i hear it, it makes me grit my teeth. 'Freudian' wasn't a person! 'Carey' is not an adjective!  The more I like the track, the more irritating this shit becomes.

Laugh at me too then because Metal Face Doom can do NO FUCKING WRONG IN MY BOOK. Isn't it a "freudian slip"? So why wouldn't "slip like freudian" make sense in context?

Here's my favorite nonsense rhymes:

  • "Ayo, Dizzy Gillespie played the sax / me myself I like to max" - Greg Nice (thankfully, Count Bass D corrected the line a decade later: "Dizzy Gillespie played the trumpet")
  • "Every jam we play, we break two needles / there's three of us but we're not The Beatles" - Reverend Run (unless he meant the three still-living Beatles when the song came out in '84)
  • "Killin' n*ggaz every day, daily" - Sticky Fingaz (like Ego Trip said, "We heard you the first time, when you said it first")
  • "Wake up! Take the pillow from your head - and put a book in it!" - KRS-ONE (a good way to wake up with a sore neck)

DOOM probably has some of the best similes and references in hip hop. I'm not even a fan of "like" rhymes but still. That like on Accordion makes sense as a play on words

I like MF Doom myself, not nearly as much as Maurice but come on.

Freud was a person. The term Freudian comes from the fact it's something he came up with. To say "slipped like freudian" doesn't make sense because Freudian was not a person, but Freud was. Freudian is anything described to be in any way related or similar to Sigmund Freud, that's why it's a weak line.

Slip like Freud makes way more sense than Slip like Freudian.

Well, I listened to it yesterday. I said he pronounces it 'carry', and he definitely says Mariah so we can only presume he means Mariah Carey. It's horrible either way. Somebody online transcribed it thusly:

'Well I'm a sire, I set the microphone on fire
Rap styles vary, and carry like Mariah'
