Just enable background downloading, turn your system off, and it will finish downloading and then finish powering down your 360.

As far as I know you get one base area and you just attach modules to it to build the different types of units.

CG cutscenes look hot.

But then i had to build a base and make marines and I shut it off.  I just don't like RTS.  I don't want to build bases and units.  Something like CoH I might like, but I need it dumbed down like CivRev.

I hate RTS, but I like Halo and its music/worldview/art quite a bit.

Had fun with the demo.  If I can play on easy so even someone who sucks at RTS can beat the game no problem I might play through it for the story.

RTS isn't for me either, but I like Halo.  And while this has some nice touches, it's still a real-time strategy game, and it's still not for me.

the Halo Wars demo downloaded in like 15.  XBLA is almost never slow for me.  Killzone 2 was 20 or so minutes, MLB 09 was more like 40.  PC demos download at 2+ megs a second for me, especially on Steam.

This sucks, i've got to get back to the doctors at some point today. if this "glandular infection" is the start of "glandular fever" i'm going to be devestated.

Even typing hurts at the moment :(

Sounds like what I had (quinsy) at the start of the year with my stupidly high temperature. Turns out it wasn't glandular fever but it took at least 2 weeks for me to feel anything close to 100%

Anyway this game feels like the perfect console RTS. Just very simple and easy to get into, with some depth to it.

After messing in the demo a bit, I think that BFME II had a better control scheme. Perhaps I haven't quite mastered the controls yet, but it seems difficult to separate or organize your forces in any coherent way. I know you can hold A and paint over a small area, but that seems to take too long. I liked in BFME II how you could pull the left trigger and everything in view was selected. I like being able to select all the troops at once, but I think some micromanagement would be good. Maybe i am missing something here, so feel free to chime in. demo was good fun and there were some nice little effects and the cinematics were nice. I'll be playing this sometime, though I doubt that I'll pass over DoWII for this

you can bypass gold only rules by find it online, burning it to a DVD/CDR, and running it off that.

It feels like a great attempt at taking a PC RTS and fitting it for a console.  I don't really understand the need, but it works and is fun.  I'd still like to see a console RTS made.  I haven't tried EndWar, so maybe that's good.  I think so far something like Pikmin is closest to what it should be.

LB selects all units in the game (which seems like too much), RB selects only nearby units (which is slightly larger than your viewing area, which seems like too much)

I played through the demo last night. Got silver on the first mission and tin on the 2nd because I took too long. :(

Is there a video of the original Halo (circa 1999 on Mac) showing off the RTS gameplay? This is the only video I could find from its first incarnation:

Yep, it's called "Evolution of Halo". It's narrated by a few key Bungie employees and it's quite funny. From RTS to 3rd person to FPS.

E3 version

Downloads
--Sneaky Cam corder version of E3 2002 Fanfest
--Hi-res, direct feed PC Gamer 2004 version, narrated by Bungie employees.
Both are worth watching as the content and commentary are different and funny (especially the CAM one)

This game is fun, but extremely dumbed down. Even for a console RTS. I have Red Alert 3 and it's alot better, plus more awesome.

I doubt this game will get alot of post release support either.

yeah that was my impression of the game from reading the GAF thread. I really don't think there's much of a market for RTS on the console, but it'll sell well just because it's a Halo game.

pretty much

doesn't mean it's bad game or anything tho, I enjoyed the demo.  Unlike Halo, it doesn't really seem to set itself apart outside of being on consoles, so maybe it could act as a gateway and get people into PC RTS games.  I've been cold on the genre for a while myself and the demo did make me want to start CoH.

Just played the demo and don't think it's my kind of RTS. My first ever RTS was Settlers and now I realise deep down I always look for those resource gathering kind of games, watch my empire get bigger, see those cool building animations, be a passivist and then when I'm accidently big enough crush my opponent or turn on my allies. None of this is in Halo Wars, but that's expected since Halo is an action game....still would have been cool. In Halo Wars I usually ended up selecting my entire army and x-ing and y-ing the enemy. The graphics are really cool though.

Everything feels very Halo (graphics, art, menus), except for the music (Bizarro Marty didn't do a bad job, but he's not Marty) and the stupid Uncharted voice for the main guy. Does he need to be in every game? Can't stand his smug all-american voice.

If you're a shooter fan and don't like RTS games, then you might not like it.  If you do like RTS games, then you might get some enjoyment.  I don't like RTS games AT ALL, but I did find some enjoyment during my second playthrough of the demo.

I put a decent chunk of time into this demo...probably around 8 or 9 hours total.

The controls are streamlined and work very well.  At first it made me happy to play a console RTS that controlled well.  Here I thought, "Oh look this is a streamlined RTS which works great with a controller." in a positive fashion.  After some extended playtime I'm now thinking "Oh look this is a streamlined RTS which works great with a controller" in a slightly more negative tone.  Not that the demo is bad....but it is way too basic for RTS veterans.

I'll stick pick up the title since its Ensemble, but I'll be waiting for a price drop to 30 bucks.

I've played this demo so many times.  I set skirmish mode to Heroic and played UNSC.  The covenant came in and nearly wiped me out three or four times.  I had two scarabs on me at one point, and I finally knocked them back by using my MAC and Vulture barrages.

Also,  :bow ODST Drop Troops :bow2  100 resources for a badass team, instantly, wherever you can see.  10 at a time.  It's amazing to just send a Hornet over the enemy base and then drop four MAC rounds on it, then drop 10 ODST Shock troops to blow it to hell with rockets and shotguns.

Now, I love Halo.  And my first gaming love was RTS.  So I might be a little biased when I say that I think I'm in love.

This game is toooooo basic even for consoles.

Yeah, but it's made for people who don't play rts games because they are complex.

If they were smart they'd release a HW: Complex version on PC later on to satisfy both groups.
