the demo is awesome.  They also managed to make the game a lot more pretty, which is hard to expect when last years game looked as good as it did.

A lot of it has to be seen in motion to be appreciated.  The way the outfits move around the body in a realistic way (not in an exaggerated like a lot of other sports games do).  Things like that makes it look real.  Just from the demo it also seems like there is a lot less aliasing than last year.  

I also tried the demo for the 3 on 3 NHL Arcade game and it was pretty fun.  It's like NHL 98 with power ups.  I'm probably going to get that on XBLA next week.

The simulation in the game is so amazing that the AI of the Met's players on your team implode at the end of every season.  Really nice attention to detail.

so, is 08 pretty cheap now?
