hey Triumph, you gotta set up the leagues again this year; I'll post the info over on GA so we get the regulars(Welli, solrac, Kara, dude with the Fry avatar) to sign up again.

I guess so, I still think it's lame that I'm perm'd over calling amirox out but whatever, it's evilore's board and he can do what he wants.  He's obviously not interested in catering to quality posters (witness the disastrophe that is the gaming forum over there) so meh.  I'll set a couple of leagues up and post info here.

Hard to deny things when there are smoking guns. Didn't stop Bonds and Clemens, but I think athletes have to pay attention to how Bonds and Clemens are being treated as opposed to Giambi and Pettitte. Get it out there and move on (to what degree of truthfulness, who knows), or else dodge questions about it the rest of your career. You've still been tainted, but your life will be easier.

Better to admit it than act like Bonds

baseball is a sport that has relied on cheating for years, from corked bats to lubricants to segregation etc etc etc. this is just the current generation's form

If they were serious about the testing they'd set up hard core rule,s test everyone at the beginning of the season, then at 3month intervals. create a black list of banned substances and if anyone gets tested for it, 100 game ban.

You've still been tainted, but your life will be easier.

Then again, A-Rod is already the most villified active player in the game, so the steroid thing isn't going to help. A $300 million contract and a lack of October production might do that to you. On the other hand, if I was sitting on $300 million, people could call me Adolf Hussein bin Laden and it would be like water off a duck's back.

I don't think there is anything wrong with gloating when one of your closest rivals face adversity (especially when they bring it upon themselves).

If anything, that's the second greatest thing to your team winning. Is the misery of others (and their fanbase).

Of course he's only coming forward for his own interests. It's not like he was volunteering this information last week. "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending this press conference. No, we're not here to talk about the upcoming season. Not here to talk about Joe Torre's book. Not here to talk about Madonna. Not here to talk about Derek Jeter. Not here to talk about how rich I am. Not here to talk about..."

He was busted, called out, and it's either do it this way or the hard way. And like everyone who comes clean, you never come all the way clean. It's how much you can say without saying it all.

Any more names leaked? I hear something about Tejada on NPR.

This is blowback from testimony a few years ago and the Mitchell Report.

Quote
WASHINGTON -- All-Star shortstop Miguel Tejada has been charged with lying to Congress about steroids, with the baseball player scheduled to appear in court Wednesday where he is expected to plead guilty.

The charges against Tejada, who currently plays for the Houston Astros, were outlined in documents filed in Washington federal court on Tuesday.

The documents indicate that a plea agreement has been reached with Tejada, who won the 2002 American League Most Valuable Player award while playing for the Oakland Athletics and is a five-time All-Star.

Tejada faces as much as a year in jail if convicted on the misdemeanor charge of making misrepresentations to Congress. Under federal guidelines, he would probably receive a lighter sentence.

This seems like the beginning of the end for baseball :'(

Nah.  Bonds and Clemens were the best players of their generation and the game kept on chugging after they got named, and it had it's best year ever last year money wise.  Game will be just fine.

Really, people just need to get over the crying and gnashing of teeth over this.  Yes, people cheated.  Lots of them.  Records were set with the help of peds, oh well.  Let's move on.  Also keeping these guys out of the HoF is dumb- peds were part of the game, trying to vindictively keep people out is a bitch move but totally in line with the mindset of the whiny, wannabe writers who vote on the HoF.
