Keeps gettin' better, hummo. The anime just started the Enies Lobby CP9 fights, which in the manga series were HARD. FUCKING. CORE. The Luffy/Lucci fight has some amazingly well-conceived scenes and spreads -- Oda just puts folks to shame when it comes to drawing and laying out action.

Actually, the post-Enies Lobby ishes had some serious plot and character advancement. The series is definitely past the halfway mark, now.

One Piece gets better by the arc and it's long as fucking shit. Quite a damn feat if you ask me.

Oda said that he plans for the series to end at volume 60. Only 10-15 more volumes of the manga left. In fact, this may be the last arc.

One Piece is seriously an anime to respect. Cause despite Japan's stupid shift to bizzare Maid Lolicon, One Piece stands on top by appealing to the CLASSIC anime sensibilities. God damnit RESPECT.

I've only seen one season and dont even read the manga and I RESPECT IT! Cause Slayers is gone and can no longer carry the torch of quality FUN anime

Luffy vs. Lucci, easily. It had SERIOUS HARDCORE, plus Lucci is just such a freaky killin' machine that you couldn't help but root for Luffy. Plus, I just loved the red herring LUFFY HALF-ISSUE GEAR 3 VICTORY? that turned into a panicked battle across ships as the bridge was collapsing for the rest of the Straw Hats. Also, Luffy shrinking from Gear 3 and Lucci hunting him down was LOLZ.

I also liked the Lucci fight because Lucci seemed mortal and not a seemingly impervious Logia superbeing like Crocodile and Enel -- Luffy's Gear 2 and Gear 3 strikes clearly hurt the fuck out of him despite his weird tekkai restoration shit. He and Luffy just traded their best attacks like motherfuckers and at the end, only Luffy was standing (sorta). TWO MARTIAL ARTISTS DUDES KICKIN' EACH OTHER'S ASSES.

The full-page scenes were awesome -- Lucci's Six Kings Shigen combos from his rokushiki shit had pretty much perfect execution in terms of the sense of the dynamic. I was just in awe over how he laid out those spreads. NO-ONE DRAWS ACTION LIKE EICHIRO ODA.

NO-ONE. I'm a total Oda fanboi, though

and they saved Robin

Zoro versus Kaku was good, and I liked that Oda went for comedy in a Zoro fight this time instead of LOLZ MISTER BUSHIDO SERIOUS. Sanji versus Jyabura was great, too, 'cuz poor Sanji had been getting his ass beat so bad on the train and when he ran into Califa.

When Zoro did the 6 arms move I literally cheered. That was AWESOME. What a great fight.

What's great about One Piece is that unlike other shonen anime/manga, you don't have to worry about the characters training and bullshit. They simply grow powerful as time goes on with each new experience, making little dead time.

Oh, and how the impacts from Luffy's Gear 2 "Jet" Gatling Gun scarred the symbol for the crooked World Government into Lucci's chest. LULZ.

Robin breaking Spandam's neck was cold, but oh-so-deserved.

Yeah, the characters seem to logically develop -- well, logical inasmuch as an anime where they feed devil fruit to inanimate objects needs to rely on "logic" -- and they never magically get abilities 'cuz they "trained". Luffy said he had some ideas about how to get better after he fought Crocodile, and his Gear 2/3 powers are clever extrapolations of his rubberman abilities -- and they have appropriate consequences for their use. Zoro knew he was fighting an opponent that outmatched him in terms of, well, weapon count, so he sped himself up so that he had the illusion of more strikes. Nami's Clima-Tact seems a bit too convenient, though. :/

Usopp saving Robin was awesome. Usopp almost always give me the series' finest moments. I didn't expect that at all!

Usopp is the everyman, which is why he rules. He's not a fighter; he's not attractive; he's not brave; he's not even HONEST -- but he sticks it out and takes a stand when his comrades need it and he uses his wits in ways folks with superpowers wouldn't cuz they have, well, superpowers. Usopp says that "hey, if you got guts, you can hang with the best." Also, he's funny as hell. I liked that Oda didn't match him up -- and really, I don't think Nami shoulda fought, either, because why do you need a crew of strongarms? Nami, Chopper, and Usopp are the brains and they're there to get the REAL shit done while the badasses are rompin' and stompin'. (And if you're talkin' low INT scores, Luffy and Zoro are probably the dumbest protagonists in shonen manga since Slayers' Gourry.)

MAF, I hear you can get the fansubs on dvd. They shouldn't be that expensive either.

But watch out. I ordered One Piece bootleg dvds from Hong Kong a few years back and the translations were really bad. Luffy was called Roof, Zoro was Soron, Sanji was Sunkist...awful.

I don't think it could be considered a kid's show. I think a lot of people can identify with One Piece because it's basically a play on adventures people had as a kid I think. It's just awesome.

Also, it's pretty bloody at times.

I've been a big Slayers fan forever. Always liked the TV series better than the OVA stuff. Some of the Naga episodes were ok (the golem ep for example) but most of the others are kinda annoying. Tho I did love the ep with tha gajillion Naga clones lol.
