Sony needs to cut price this spring. Ideally, they'd do it with Killzone 2 in a couple weeks.

They need to take a hit to the bottomline to gain some momentum. It's not smart business, but it'll really make the console wars interesting.

God no wonder you were such a bad journa.... ahem pardon me.
They're already selling at a loss and doing terribly as is. As they have said the realistic expectation is to rectify the situation so they can at least make a profit. I'm sure if they could wave a magic wand to make ps3 cheap to produce it woukd've happened. Console Wars aren't a legit concern for Sony. Unless its some now-defunct gaming rag's worthless article.  I really don't think there's anything they can do but try to make appealing games and find a way to be profitable somewhere down the road. They are in an immovable position until manufacturing costs go down.

And console wars is already boring going on three years. NINTENDO DOMINATES, everyone else fights for the scraps.

You lose at the internets.

As if my last sentence wasn't giveaway enough, I guess I'll just say it: I WAS MAKING THE FUN.

I blame lack of inflection on the internet. IRL the sarcasm detection rate is around 65%. But no one ever knows when I'm being sarcastic. :[

Don't blame others when you're doing it wrong.

You've either been sarcastic 100% of the time or 0% of the time since I've been here.  How in the world do you expect people to figure out when you're being sarcastic when there's no baseline to judge you by.

I doubt Sony will go third party.  They just will pull their heads out of their asses when designing the PS4 this time.

No,the closest thing that we have is this

Quote
Things may change for Sony, especially with another year of fantastic exclusives planned for the system. Peter Dille, SVP of Marketing, ignores the January NPD results entirely and instead looks towards the future. "The PlayStation brand experienced a record year in sales in 2008 and we have every reason to believe our blockbuster line up combined with PS3's position as the best Blu-ray player and most sophisticated entertainment device out there, will continue to fuel increased marketshare and momentum into 2009. We've truly upped the ante this year with an unmatched software lineup ahead, kickstarting with the much anticipated and platform-moving title Killzone 2 later this month. We're the only company to offer three viable platforms today and will continue to deliver a seamless and comprehensive entertainment experience to our customers for many years to come."

This is the first time since the PS3 release that Sony didn't comment on NPD,i think.

I think it's pretty clear why....

They're going third party.

If they actually went third party with console games They could end up being a real powerhouse.

I can't see that ever happening. Sony is very much a hardware based company be it blu-ray players, dvd players, tv's, phones, laptops...etc.

Going third party would hurt blu ray. They won't do it

You brought the truth especially hard when discussing Wii Music.

See?  That was sarcasm done correctly.

And the average 360/PS3 owner is the same but not trying to get in shape.

Which is why DLC is the wave of the future! Pretty soon they will lose their mobility due to their ever growing girth, removing the ability to hose down and venture forth to the EB Games and partake in their weekly debate with the helpless Store Manager, while they purchase the latest Call of Warhawk.

So when are the next-gen consoles arriving?  Even though one of the best systems ever was in this generation, the dated tech is making it hard to enjoy a console game.  It's like playing a N64 after 3DFX brought its GPUS to the PC.
