I think I might be quitting pop for good.
« on: February 18, 2009, 12:52:10 PM »
9-10 cans a day for 8+ years.

Headaches that make want to (seriously) kill myself a day after quitting.

Fucking hallucinations (All walls have caramel syrup running down them, cars are pepsi cans being driven by smaller pepsi cans, and women are pepsi cans with bulges where their boobs and ass reside are just a few examples) two days after quitting.

This time around, I'm quitting for good.

Yo, 1-2 liters of Mountain Dew a day for the past 13 years.  I've quit a few times for long stretches (6-8 months) but always get back on the junk. I need to quit, finally. These empty calories are killing me.

PS. My teeth are beautiful

I've cut down to mostly drinking flavored seltzer, which is just like soda, except extremely healthy.

Try that.

I can already tell you. Fucks your kidneys up every so often enough to make you feel so bad that you vomit because of the pain. Turns you into a fat insomniac who once almost stabbed a coke machine with a pen in JFK airport when standing next to 40 Transit Authority cops while yelling.

It fucks you up.

goddamn, man. I quit pop in high school.  I lost so 15 pounds with that decision alone.  I'd recommend flavored setzers as well.  Quitting anything cold turkey is way too hard, especially for established addictions.  Do it gradually.

You don't necessarily need to quit pop, just cut down. That's what I did. Now, it's hard for me to drink coke or pepsi mainly because I feel like my teeth are going to rot off every time I drink them.

I'm never really gotten into pop, I'm just too concerned with the sugar to ever order it at restaurants / go out and buy it, etc. BUT I usually have my vodka with Red Bull, which isn't very good. Once in a while I'll get a Mountain Dew or whatever (soooo much better in a can).

Most people call it pop in London-Corbin, KY. I think it's because the local bottling plant and most of the local restaurants have pepsi.

If anything I hear coke or pop more than I do soda. It's funny, because both are equal terms for the beverage. Wasn't it originally marketed as "soda pop?"

I quit drinking soda because I couldn't stand the carbonation.

Switched to hard liquor. I rock.

Clearly the winner's choice.

I have no desire to drink soda or fruit juice anymore. I always drank mostly water & milk anyway but now I don't drink anything sugary at all. It's not even remotely hard for me. The thrill has gone, and I know it's horrible for me physically.

Now, quitting coffee or booze, THAT would be hard for me.

When I was a young kid, I went to some rural Ontario diner with my parents. I asked the waitress for a Coke. She responded by asking what kind of coke. I think I was confused by her question and simply shrugged my shoulders and said a regular Coke. She stared at me for a while, and then asked what kind of regular coke: Pepsi, 7UP, Canada Dry.

I really don't remember what happened afterward, but I do know I was confused, not knowing at the time some people called pop coke.

I have another lame anecdote involving fries. "You mean you want some chips?" etc. etc.

Some people refer to fries as chips. So when the waitress responded to my request for fries by asking whether I wanted chips, I thought she was asking if I wanted a bag of chips, like lays.

edit:
for the record, I was no older than seven.

It was inside, I think.  I can't say for certain that it was in there before I opened it because I put it down a few times.  I also can't say for certain that it was a cockroach because I got all freaked out when I took it out of my mouth and threw it somewhere.
