Well my fellow cowards, shall we discuss as he asks? Although it is not a complete discussion since we are only supposed to discuss White and Black peoples' racism issues, instead of racism of all races.

My opinions:

Date/marry who you want.
Hire best worker for the job.
Stop having double standards for racial slurs.

That's ok, my ancestor on my mom's side came here from Ireland after he killed the local British landlord.  :D

On the other hand, my dad's ancestors came over from the Netherlands after the tulip blight or whatever it was called.  Not nearly as cool.

Meh, your ancestors still benefited from the racist institutions of the US regardless of whether they were slave owners. Water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned

Holder is right. White people throw a fit at the slightest insinuation that they've benefited from slavery or Jim Crow or any other action. But it's not like they're the only people to blame for our lack of dialogue. Many black people play the victim card far too damn much.

Eh, irish people were treated like shit when my ancestors came over here. My dad's side can't make that kind of claim though, they came from France lol. They've been in America for like forever, been here in Michigan since it was still a France province.  No slaves for them!

For real Netherlands > Ireland.

I grew up in the Netherlands in the area where all the tulips grow.

i know and realize this 100%.

The issue is that i think if we admit that we benefited from slavery, that makes us open to attack as though we were complicit and approving of the enslavement of africans and indians.

It's certainly an unfair assertion. It isn't far or logical; just as there's not a single former slave alive today, there's not a single slave owner or slavery enabler alive today.

I don't think that's the main reason people refuse to admit they benefited from slavery though. There's still a lot of denial about the power of institutional racism today, and how it still effects our society. The playing field wasn't far for a very, very long time. Just 50 years ago blacks were legally second class citizens through much of the country, and that type of treatment had a domino effect on everything - from education to housing to jobs etc.

people aren't rational

this is why Sharpton grandstands over a monkey cartoon and then seemingly does nothing to address real racial issues

Where is Sharpton, or Jackson for that matter, on AIDS in the black community. Or black on black violence. Or fixing inner city schools. Instead they focus on rap music, burying the N word, and satire cartoons. They're nothing more than enablers for the victim mentality.

which is why a lot of people are dismissive of them.

in fact when they became associated with the jenna 6 a lot of people automatically took the white's side simply because of past associations with the two.

The only thing I know about my ancestors is that I have lots of Native American blood; my great great grand dad was Indian, don't remember what tribe. My grandma has blue eyes and straight hair, and my hair isn't nappy (isn't straight either)

Actually, there was no "blight", just one of the first spectacular failures of the unimpeded free market. Luckily though the human race has evolved so much in the last 375 years!!

I'm mostly Irish but 1/8 Native.

The biggest problem is the lack of communication between black people and white people.  Where I live, it is possible for you to never really meet a black person in your life, except for what you see in the media.  What do you see?  Rap music, Al Sharpton freaking out over cartoons, and general media portrayals of black people, which are often negatively stereotypical.

I agree that some real dialogue needs to take place.  Keep the idiots like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and other victimizers (of all races, not just limited to black people) out of it BTW.  They built their whole lives on victimization and will do little to change it because if real change were to occur, then where would they be?
