Yakuza 3 demo... wtf
« on: February 19, 2009, 08:34:36 PM »
So all the screenshots came from SOME of the cutscenes (because some of them look pretty bad) , because in game this doesn't look that much better than the PS2 games.

stiff animation, jaggies and shimmering (some of the worst i've seen on the Ps3 to date) , mix of terrible textures/good textures etc.

oh, plays exactly the same too.

lots and lots and lots of unvoiced text.

Did you not play Kenzan?

This is the same engine.  It looks the same with slight improvements.  Also in case you didn't play the Kenzan demo, the demo was terrible; full game was great.  RGG doesn't lend itself to demos since you only get the battle system when it's at its worst/most shallow and you just get some random piece of narrative.

yeah, the videos make the aliasing look really bad.  Japan needs to learn up on anti-aliasing.

the aliasing is not surprising seeing as how it is sub hd with no aa

Valkryia had really bad jaggies too.  That didn't stop it from being fuckawesome, but still.

the gaf thread on this is making me jealous for not speaking chirp-chirp.  It looks too damn good.

normally I wonder why big Japanese games don't get 360 ports (and PS3 ports for things like SO4), but I remember Nagoshi talking about how he is against multiplatform development because it doesn't focus on the strengths of the individual console...or something.  Maybe someone can find the piece, it wasn't from that long ago.

this is the stuff he said

Quote
Nagoshi ( SEGA ) :
- Before, you wouldn't make software for hardware which wouldn't sell. Things are now different. It's now a matter of fighting so the resources dedicated to the HD consoles wouldn't decrease.
- Making titles that actively justify the existence of the high-end consoles is a personal mission
- The 'multiplatformization' of the game software has little meaning. Digging further into each platform's characteristics and nature is what is interesting.
- He wants to make a new game using his experience with Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku. He is also considering worldwide development, though he is worried about the stance that consists of appealing to the Western audience before the Japanese audience.

Bottom line is outside of Capcom, j-programmers are not very good with modern hardware and graphical techniques.  It's difficult enough for them to get the games running at 30fps with no AA on one console, to add AA or port it to another system is beyond their abilities most likely.

I mean Tri-ace has the god of programming on their team and look how IU and SO4 turned out on the most powerful console on the market.

There have been some good cases, mainly with fighting games.  Virtua Fighter 5 and SC4 both look great on both consoles.

Didn't Sega say in that Famitsu 360 issue that the majority of their games this year are going to be multiplat?

to be fair to the JPN devs, HD games just aren't selling.  Handheld is where its at over there.  I could understand how it just isn't worth it to invest in 2 different SKU's if the sales are going to be as negligible as they usually are.

Bayonetta isn't internally developed, it's a Platinum Games title.
