It's pretty awesome through about the middle of the 3rd disc, then it becomes kind of a chore. It's definitely worth getting at about $20, tho.

Agreed. Up to that point its arguably my favorite game this gen. The pacing is awesome. I've still yet to beat it though.

Those guys are slaughtering me. What do I need to do? The hard part has been having to immediately shuffle between the five of them without being able to fully heal. So, I kill like two or three of them and then get my ass whooped.

Put them to sleep and they never wake up - if they're asleep you can escape and they will stand still while you can go put the others to sleep, then you can take them one at a time at your leisure

The gamble spell is the best magic spell in the game imo.
I've beat those monsters on my first try. But I was overpowered anyway.

yeah gamble was awesome. those dinosaur things attacking numara were easy to take down if you just used the highest element spell against them (ie flarus for water).

the 4th disc is becoming a chore though.

You can heal between battles, if you go into the menu then the dragons won't move.

I was at a loss for what to tell you, but demi nailed it. I forgot about the sleep thing, that's what makes it cake. If you were trying to get all 5 killed then I'd imagine that'd be a nightmare.

Awesome game, bogged down by slow load times and I kept on getting DRE's... unfortunately that was before the install feature was made available, I hear the game is vastly improved if you install. The main plot was a bit of a disappointment compared to the "Thousand Years of Dreams" though.

Yup... although I thought wandering on the train tracks was really slow and boring, I actually liked the multiple perspectives in disk 3, reminded me very much like an SNES FF game. The game slowed down for me in disk 4, what with all the subquests (hated that fucking temple).

I remember back when the game came out, everyone said disc 3 was amazing. I got to it and I felt that it dragged too, it really killed my momentum in the game. But I pushed through it and really enjoyed its latter parts, and disc 4. I skipped most of the sidequests though, I should really go back and do that.

This game RULES. I really love these characters, especially the dude who shows up drunk. It's a perfect reaction to being sent on a mission with two people who can't die. I like the Skill system, I like the little mountain hut thing. I'm a huge fan of "journey" games (HALF LIFE 2 FOREVER), so this one is sitting nice and pretty.

Is there a danger in dropping Mack from the party? He's a lousy hitter and Spirit Magic is nice, but he has low MP and I've just had Ming pick up Spirit Magic from him, so it's the same diff. I was hoping to get a 3rd bruiser in place, but whatev.

Also, do people who are outside the party continue to level with everyone else?

No they don't, but people who are underleveld gain a level in just about every battle until they catch up.

I kept as many mortals in my party as possible. I had Mack on my team almost till the end of the game, a couple of his spirit spells are awesome on the level of AIka's Lambda Burst thing

And I finally beat the game tonight. Meh on the ending. Game was pretty good overall I guess, probably rates a 7.5 or maybe an 8 at best. Still, pretty good for a jrpg these days.

This is probably the only RPG I've ever played that has a passable script. It has some cringe-worthy moments (Most the Numaran ship thing lapses into a kind of stock JRPG script), but on the whole the characters are funny and reasonable and likeable. The kids get a lot of hate, but I rather enjoy them. They're well written, well voiced and at the very least useful.

The plot seems to be sort of slow in getting moving- I'm 10 hours in and I barely have any sense of the problems as a whole other than one dude is bad and everyone else forgot everything. I'm sure it won't be world changing, but it's being presented beautifully.

I am 100% totally enjoying this. I just got to the Old Sorceresse's mansion.

Yeah, the world map music in the game is awesome. I think I overall prefer BD's soundtrack, as its catchier and more upbeat than LO's, but LO's is great, too.

My current team in kaim/Seth/Jansen/Ming/Sarah. I'm not huge on Ming, but skill slots and learning skills, blah blah. Equipment-based skills seem to do an adaquate job of keeping my team up to par, outside of Spirit Magci

Note that it's worth it to level up your humans for the skills they'll give you. Cooke will give you quick casting skills, Jansen I think gives double cast, etc. Game gets remarkably easier as soon as you get Sed.
