I came home from James's before 1. My dad was on the couch (which is where he sleeps, because my mother refuses to kick the dog out of their bed so my dad can sleep there) and I locked the door behind me. He told me to leave it open, because my mother was still out. I asked where she was, and he didn't know.

It's 2:23am and she just walked in the door. My bet is that she was at the casino, spending money she doesn't have because she got herself fired from her job a month ago.

She's such a douchebag.    And it sucks, because she used to be the coolest mom ever.

Sorry, just needed someone new to vent to--my LJ friends list is tired of hearing about her I'm sure. And I love you guys, so.

She didn't like the shrink she was seeing (neither did I, though) so she stopped seeing him, but won't see another. She won't listen to anyone and I've pretty much just given up. etiolate: Nope. Once a year or so she'd take a bus trip to Atlantic City with family, go with like $30, and only spend that. She still doesn't take a lot of money to the casino, but she makes a few trips per week. At least it's close by (I passed it on the way home from James's tonight) but still.

I've actually known quite a few married couples that don't sleep in the same bed anymore. Normally there's something having to do with one of them smelling or being disturbing in sleep and that the good nights sleep is more important at their age than being together.

Gambling addiction isn't very healthy and it is a serious problem if left unchecked.

I went to a conference a couple weeks ago at a casino and people would gamble at all hours.  It was pretty sad.

They recently opened up a Mohegan Sun at the Pocono Downs racetrack, which I live about 2 minutes away from, and Nikki lives 10 minutes or so from.

It's only slot machines for now, but there's talk of expanding it to a full on casino. They've got to get some stuff passed with out Puritan government, though.

Oh, and there's another slot machine place somewhere in the actual poconos now. Mt. Airy or some shit.

Sleeping separately really isn't that uncommon. My dad usually slept on the couch ~ he works offshore and is used to background noise while sleeping, my mom prefers silence. I always thought it was totally weird, but over the years have met quite a few people who sleep/know people who sleep like this.

Nikki, does your dad think your mom is getting bad off? Is he miserable or anything?

Those penut butter patties (used to be called tagalongs?) are dangerous.  Can easily eat a whole box with half a gallon of milk.  I've been patient on my first box, but I have the feeling the second box might not last much longer.  Also have another box of thin mints, and my gf loves the coconut ones which are surprisingly good too.

My dad doesn't really care either way at this point. He's through with her. I am 100% certain that if either of them could afford this house on their own, that they'd be separated. My brother and I have already discussed at length how if/when that happens, we're living with our dad.

You can't force someone to get help unless they try to kill themselves--and at that point it's not you forcing them to get help, it's two doctors or a doctor and a psychologist/psychiatrist putting them on a 72 hour hold. My mom's not suicidal, just batshit.

I actually have a friend that's having problems with her boyfriend smelling.  It's the strangest thing ever I've never heard of it before.  What's even more strange is why he's smelling all of the sudden.  They've been together for over three years now and he's never had a problem with body odor or anything like that before.

I'm implying that maybe she just doesn't want to be in the same bed as her boyfriend. Maybe she's grown to dislike him, maybe she's dealing with personal problems and just doesn't want to be around her boyfriend for long periods of time anymore, and maybe he's some sex fiend and she uses the "you smell" excuse to avoid that.

Sounds like someone's speaking from experience.
