Ableton Live and MIDI keyboard question (Eric P and others)
« on: February 22, 2009, 03:01:16 AM »
So I'm still sort of struggling to get the hang of my new Axiom 49 classic MIDI keyboard from Christmas.  I had just been using it in Garageband, fucking around with it and not really using all of its features.  I wanted to start getting the hang of all of it all and LEARN the device, so I fire fire up Live 7 Lite and start messing around.

So far, most everything works.  I know what presets my keyboard has to be on (in this case, 18,19, or 20) and it recognizes any button pressing.  Controls work fine for recording, playing, looping, etc.  I even got my pads to work perfectly.

But I can't get any of the sliders or encoder toggles to control the MIDI control settings of the MIDI track.  I can't change EQ, reverb, echo, etc.  It recognizes input, but there's no response in the program.  What gives?  Any help would be great.

Also, another ode one: my pitch wheel works fine, but the modulation one doesn't work.  doublya tee eff.

google your make and model number and ableton to find a solution. http://www.abletonlivedj.com/ forums may also probably have some info for you.

Just get a MicroKORG, BrandNew.  Synthesizers make the panties drop.

That's my next purchase, probably.  I got the MIDI controller first so I could work a little more with some mixing software; to force me to learn the programs.  The microKORG has always looked hot to me.

Still can't figure it out, and I've watched videos, read tutorials, the works.  Do I need a different cable or something?  I thought I should be able to do everything with the included USB cable.

Nevermind, I'm dumb.  I didn't realize most of the adjustments have to be made yourself, like assigning which effect goes to which slider/encoder.  For some reason I thought Live just does that for you.  Nope.  The one thing that bums me out though is that my knobs on my controller kind of...suck to adjust effects.  Sliders are muuuuch much more accurate and precise.

I'm pumped, I think I have most of this program understood now.

oh, yes.

some products auto assign and ableton has some devices "pre-recognized" but you'll probably have to set everything on your own

make certain you save so you don't have to re-assign each time you start live.
