Sean Penn was great and I had him in my picks, but does that man ever NOT soapbox? It's fucking annoying.
And yeah, Rourke deserved it.
I have to say, since he just won an Oscar for playing a gay rights advocate, I don't really mind him talking about that. I could generally do without actors doing that at awards shows- do it on your own time if you want to talk about something. But with Penn winning for playing Harvey Milk, I say it's not such a big deal.
I will say that I still love Micheal Moore's acceptance speech for Bowling for Columbine, tho, because he made it at a time when most people were still all gung ho for the war, and then pretty much everything he said turned out to be true. And he got booed at the time! A crazed liberal haranguing a warmongering Republican President got booed at the fucking Oscars. Not enough people remember that.
