Why? If anything, SOTC is one of the few examples of good game storytelling I can think of. Certainly better than what Kojima spews out, and this is coming from a huge MGS fan. MGS fans who act like MGS storytelling is actually good are weird. They're cheesy and fun, and that's why I like them. But they're not great either. They're b-movie grade.

Either way, shit list

I think games can be considered art, but the people who keep insisting that games are on par with film or lit are lol. I get much pleasure playing games. Sometimes more than when watching some movies or tv shows, but these people must be kidding themselves.

Maybe all of the design stuff, yes. But the actual game has plenty of sweat and tears making the design work, and changing the design-in a decidedly engineering way-when there's no hope of it working in practice.

I don't know, sometimes there are games that are more art than game, and sometimes they relate together fairly well.  Bioshock's world was really quite breathtaking.  A lot of those new Arcade/PSN titles are getting artsier.

Hell, Braid looks like a painting.

There's definitely games out there that are designed to be appreciated more for their aesthetic value than the technical details or the gameplay.

I mean, art is subjective but I think that even a medium like videogames deserves to possibly be considered art.  I do think some games are art but I'm just making fun of how canned this list is.  I mean, Katamari Damacy?  That's just wacky jappy.

Heart of Darkness is about a 7.5 game with 11 atheistics.  The pixel art and astoundingly detailed and fluid hand-drawn animation would make it worthwhile nonetheless, that its also a pretty good game is a bonus.  But of its particular sub-genre its not at the cream of the crop (its behind Flashback, Blackthorne, Oddworld), the controls will fail you and its absurd artistry is matched by a similarly high and evil difficulty.  The CGI cutscenes kinda suck too.

But still, its got stupid levels of gorgeous.  I don't think there's a 2D game of the PS1 era that's nearly as technically accomplished.  Hell, its a strong contender for the best EVER cel-animated game.  Its that good.  Really.
