Freaks and Geeks makes me miss HS so much
« on: March 03, 2009, 10:53:05 PM »
I wish I could go back and be more open-minded, do more stuff, join more clubs.

I miss HS. I didn't realize it until I took a personal tour of my old high school after they renevated it to the point where it looks nothing like the place I attended daily for 4 years.

I feel like I took those times for granted and didn't get as much out them as I could have.

Oh well.

My 10-year reunion is this Spring. I loved high school. but have zero interest of going. Anyone I care about, I still see or talk to.

How do they find you? Like, what if I'm living in California or something? Will I still get an invitation to the 10th anniversary?

Pretty much. It's the same reason I don't bother with Facebook. But yeah, I loved high school as well.

When I was in HS, I was a member of many clubs, I participated in many activities, was able to get excellent grades, and was known as the most energetic, resourceful, and proactive student on the school grounds.

They came to me to do everything for them, and made sure that I get the recognition and credit I deserved.

8 years later, and I'm tired, burned-out, have no intention of going through that again, and my performance is mediocre at best.

My point is, you should save it for when it counts. HS wasn't worth it.

I was in two clubs for african american teenagers in MS and HS. I was the vice president of our jack and jill chapter and assistant recording secretary (wtf) for our Top Teens chapter. We did community service, held dances, and did a bunch of fun ass shit. I didn't do anything like that in HS except for band trips.

Your HS website probably has an alumni section, where you can sign up to receive emails and shit.

I read that as provocative.

I don't miss HS because I'm in college, and even just talking about academics, it blows HS out of the water.

There are a few things I actually do miss.  Gym rocked pretty hard because we basically convinced the teacher to do dodgeball every single class; I don't think I would be able to get a good game of dodgeball going like we had in those days.  Everything I needed, from cafeteria to library, was in the one giant building and I didn't need to walk around a large campus.  Really got a sense of events and holidays just by walking down the halls; Halloween at college is pretty boring since everyone only dresses up to go to parties at night, so you don't see kids wearing costumes in class.  Sharing almost an entire schedule with friends so group projects didn't such for any class.

I think that's about it.  Well, I was also less lazy in HS since it was 5 days a week, I had to get up early every day, and freedom started late in the afternoon.  My college schedule is so much better than anything I've ever had in HS.

High school was actually pretty trashy for me. Especially freshman and sophmore years.

i liked that you could screw around during class in HS, play tricks on the teachers and stuff with little consequence.  college was better in every other way

the best part of highschool was probably the drugs and the knowledge that it didn't last forever.

It's funny. One of my now-best friends was the boyfriend of one my best friends in high school. We all pretty much hated him back in the day, and I didn't talk to him at all during college, but now, out of everyone from then, we're the closest.

Middle school was hell.

High school was probably one of the worst points in my life.

I quit college after three years and not even having a two year degree.

Fuck school imo.  I'm making bank without it doing IT work.  :smug

The only regrets I had about high school were all the people I treated like shit. I hung around the toughest people, so I had carte blanche to walk all over people's feelings. That's why I would never go back to a reunion, I would feel compelled to apologize to a lot of people and it would be awkward.

Just got my 10 year reunion notice in the mail as well... I'm not gonna go. I still keep in touch with my close friends from HS (a good portion of them, at least), and I was (surprise!) a bit of a social outcast in HS too, so why would I even bother going? To brag about my job to people who don't give a shit or who probably don't remember me?

Eh, I don't think it's too big of a deal if you miss certain people.  I had a pretty cool group of friends going on my junior and senior year, and we all are on like different corners of the country now.  A bummer, but oh well.

I don't miss junior high or high school.  I was a social outcast (aside from a small group of friends) and an awkward loser. I hated the social structure and being one of only a couple non-Mormons there.  I've skipped my reunions, because I don't want to go back and meet people I have even less in common with now.

Laser skin resurfacing can help with your existing acne scarring. It can't, however, help with your emotional scarring.

I don't miss High School. I miss the lack of responsibility for my life.

Also when I watch Freaks & Geeks I get upset that we never got to see any more of those awesome people together.

I am happy that people like Seth Rogen, James Franco and Jason Siegel have had more work. I am upset that it's difficult to see Sam, Neil and Bill on anything (although Neil has been in a bunch of shows/movies as the nerdy guy). Same for Mr Rosso and Mr Weir, two awesome characters. I love this show :(

HS was a waste of time.

Easy ass classes, three hour long football practices (like it mattered, we were always at the bottom of the rankings), mediocre parties, and no women.  That was my HS experience in one sentence.

Most of the folks I hang out with now I went to high school with.  There are very few folks that I still give a shit about from that period that I'm not currently good friends with or in constant contact.  For better or worse, I've had a pretty tight knit group of friends for a long time.

I don't know if I could miss high school itself much - I skipped or slept through most of it.

The impressions I've got from message boards etc. I've read is that existing scar treatment techniques in general aren't very effective, or at least not reliably effective, and can actually damage things.  I'm very skeptical about the cosmeceutical and cosmetic surgery industry.  Not that I have the money anyway.
