So when I try to log in to EB at home...
« on: March 04, 2009, 05:52:24 PM »
...I get a message telling me something along the lines of "give it up synbios, we're not letting you back in."

First my icon status gets removed, now I'm being mistaken for synbios? Jeez Evilbore.  :'(

Why did St C get his icon status removed while you continue to protect someone who ripped off a forum member for several hundred dollars?

Because Ichirou is annoying.  Also, how the hell is anyone protecting anyone else?  You people have a highly skewed version of what being an icon is- basically we have a sub-forum where I bitch about most of you and everyone tells me to shut up.

Just saying, for such a close-knit community it seems odd to bestow a title upon a member who ripped someone else off, regardless of the victim.

Except for Secret Santa right?

Edit:  For the record I was one of if not the first guy burned in Secret Santa, and if the poster who did it was an icon I'd be pissed.  As it is he doesn't post (to my knowledge.)  Just saying, having a member like that AS an Icon kinda tarnishes the whole site.

That is evilbore created, and run by an evilbore admin. Thus, it might make sense to hold the site accountable when members are wronged. On the other hand, Evilbore had nothing to do with Ichi's transactions.

There's a big difference in site-moderated transactions (Secret Santa) and anything that occurs outside the forum (or private messages).  I'm not even privy to all the details of Ichirou's transactions, because other than Himuro, nothing else was publicly aired.  I'm not going to play detective and find out which party wronged which party or police member's actions off the site, unless it's a deliberate act to truly harm the server or members in real-life.

That's fair, and I am well aware why Secret Santa is so moderated.

I'm not saying there should be moderation of every transaction between members of the board.  But when one member rips off another for several hundred dollars and remains a member of status it begs the question.  No one is asking anyone to 'play detective,' why not just have Mupepe deal with the accusations for starters?

Because nobody even came to me and told me what happened, that's why.

When all I know is that a member, who is not longer a member of this community, alleges via third-parties that another member wronged him - what you're asking me is to play detective.  And police outside activities between two parties, one of which is no longer a member of this community.

And to be quite honest, if you're going to do transactions with members, you should do so in the open.  Like in a public buy/sell thread and keep the financial details to yourself.  Then it doesn't become quite the "He Said, She Said" argument.  And furthermore, don't deal with people in general!

my guess is that if Ichirou didn't excel at playing the victim, and if he hadn't sworn this forum off (two interrelated phenomena), then his complaints about mupepe would have been taken alot more seriously.  not saying that's a good thing, but it just seems to be the case.

Also, being an Icon isn't about moral purity.

My meltdowns are catastrophic, Toxic Adam. Thanks for noticing!

I didn't realize "icon status" was something that could be taken away due to not being on OA, but it's not a big deal. I liked being the man around town, but now that honor should go to the next man.

nothing's going to happen to him because the forum has double standards. curseofthegods talks about how he wants all jews dead in a thread and gets away with it, whereas asking if some guy dates gooks and calling lyte edge a distinguished mentally-challenged gook distinguished black fellow will get you banned. some forms of hatespeak just aren't allowed on evilbore, according to willco.

besides, as much as i think ichirou is right, taking away mupepe's title isn't going to pay his money anyway. doesn't justify defending him by pretending you don't know the story though.

also, as sad as it might be, you have to lol at the icons e-ganging up on people back in the day for posting stupid shit in political/economical threads, defending the ps3 or liking comic sans, yet someone gets away with this.

Honestly, Corny being called Synbios is a lot more interesting and hilarious than the side-topic I brought up.

I know Demi isn't going to do anything about the Mupepe situation, we've already discussed it.  I just like bringing it up because it seems like so few people know Mupepe pulled a Wobe.  Wobe didn't even rip off a member of OA but he was still ostracized once it was found out he was a scam artist.  Mupepe gets a new identity and a clean slate, but that's how this place rolls.  GAF lite indeed.
