With all the trouble he had getting Justice League off the ground, you'd think he'd try and do something to prove himself again, but nope. Well, he did decide to make Mad Max 4, but there's a catch - it's going to be animated.

Specifically, Miller is going to make Mad Max 4 as a 3D anime. "I see myself as someone who is very curious about storytelling and all its various media," Miller told MTV. "I've always loved anime, in particular the Japanese sensibility. It's something I’ve always wanted to do." Miller is going all out, not only is he ditching the franchise's star Mel Gibson- "we'll probably go a different route" - but he's even making a video game for it at the same time. The plot is supposedly being borrowed from the original Mad Max 4 script that was written for production in 2003, but that version never happened and thus got scrapped.

"The anime is an opportunity for me to shift a little bit about what anime is doing because anime is ripe for an adjustment or sea of change," Miller attempts to explain. "It's coming in games and I believe it’s the same in anime. There's going to be a hybrid anime where it shifts more towards Western sensibilities. Akira Kurosawa was able to bridge that gap between the Japanese sensibilities and the West and make those definitive films." I don't think he has any idea what he's talking about. Okay, Kurosawa did bridge that gap beacuse he's a genius, but there is no "sea of change" coming in the anime world, as far as I know.

I don't know what everyone else thinks, but this sounds like a really lazy idea to me. It just seems like George Miller didn't, or couldn't, get any live-action project made, so he decided to not only go back to his roots, but make the next sequel animated instead. Apparently this Mad Max 4 is supposedly going to be very R-rated, which doesn't exactly change my mind. Okay, maybe I'm being a bit too harsh on Miller, but I really don't like the guy or any of recent ideas. I even really disliked Happy Feet, but that's a discussion for another day. But really, does anyone want to see Mad Max 4 as a 3D anime? Anyone?

Mad Max 3 was already terrible as is. All we needed was Mad Max 1 & 2. Give it up George Miller.

Plus of all things to be done animated this isn't it. Mad Max was all about Mel Gibson being a badass.

This is a great idea. You will never recreate the coolness of Mel Gibson, so why bother?

His other projects weren't exactly shitty either. Even the Witches of Eastwick had some good performances and Happy Feet was a decent kids flick. Babe: Pig in the City was actually better than the first one.

I remember a few years ago, Mad Max 4 almost got off the ground and they were talking about how it was going to have very limited CG, with real stunts like the originals and it was going to be all gritty and hardcore and they were trying to get Mel Gibson back and everything was going to be awesome. Now it's going to be all CG?? SMH*

I think I saw the Babe sequel, don't remember. But I do remember the first one, hell I vaguely remember seeing it the first time. Amazing movie; haven't seen it in awhile but I'm sure it holds up today

His resume outside his first Mad Max films reads like a "I can actually turn in a good film that was supposed to be forgettable twaddle!". It's a shame he's never been given a recent major film to prove himself.

if he was serious he could have signed up for Mad Max 4 pretty much anytime over the last 8 years or so when the project was developing. If this CGI flick gets made it will because they'll be using the script that's already been developed for a never made Mad Mad 4, not a new one for this project specifically.

That this is being made at all seems to signify that George Miller is ready to give up on the series altogether, make something out what's already been done and put it all to rest. I thought the Mad Max game would use the leftover story materials from MM4, but I guess its doing its own thing or whatever.
