I recall that Shatner was, seriously, vehemently opposed to Takei having a captain's commission in one of the movies. He was supposed to have moved up, and Shatner blocked it because he didn't want to share the limelight. Takei really, really laid into him at the roast -- I suspect very little of it was exaggerated in his feelings for The Shat.

Everyone except DeForest Kelley and Leonard Nimoy hated Shatner. Those 3 were very very close pals but the rest couldn't stand Shatner.

I loved Star Trek, the original series and The Next Generation. I watched it with my mom, and also I'm just a huge nerd.

I am scared they are going to hollywood this movie to the point I have a Stupid Sexy Flanders moment after leaving the theater and drive my car into a ditch.

Honestly, that's my fear, but

- the added sex factor fits in the TOS spirit
- this is only going to add to the continuity rather than "relaunch" the franchise, meaning that the forty plus years of TV and movies aren't being canned
- it looks pretty good
- it's highly reviewed

At this point, I expect it to be at least better than Nemesis, which was a steaming pile of dogshit. I don't expect it to be better than The Wrath of Khan, First Contact, or Undiscovered Country, at least without not watching it first.
