In the late 80s or early 90s, when I used to watch/care about TMNT, there was no female turtle.

In 1997-1998, the Turtles starred in a live-action television series called Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation that follows the events of the movies. A fifth turtle was introduced, a female named "Venus de Milo" who was skilled in the mystical arts of the shinobi. The series seemed to be a loose continuation of the movie franchise, as Shredder had been defeated and the Ninja Turtles encountered new villains. Other connections to the feature films include the fact that Splinter's ear was cut, the Foot Soldiers were humans, and the Turtles lived in the abandoned subway station seen in the second and third movies. The Next Mutation Turtles even made a guest appearance on Power Rangers: In Space, a live-action show that was popular at the time.[10]

However, The Next Mutation never caught on with fans, and it was canceled after one season of twenty-six episodes. Since its cancellation, Peter Laird has disavowed all knowledge of the character Venus de Milo, while Kevin Eastman is more open to talk about her.

yeah, I never saw a TMNT show with a female turtle. Is this from the same time as Ghostbusters with a dude in a wheelchair? TV probably sucked then and it's no wonder I didn't see it.

I remember hearing about this female turtle, but I was too old for TMNT by the time the live action TV series came out. Hell, I had outgrown TMNT by the third live action movie.

I watched TMNT 1 and 2 literally at least once a week when I was younger but that live action show was so bad even young cheebs couldn't last longer than one episode.

I was re-reading a TMNT comic from 4-5 years back, and Peter Laird was saying in the letters section that both he and Eastman LOATHED the idea of the character, finding her unnecessary and stupid.

There is no doubt that the "fifth" turtle was created by the people doing the awful live-action show. Glad they didn't put her in that CG movie, yuck.

When I watched TMNT when I was a kid, it was only Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo, and Raphael. No chick turtle.

I watched Power Rangers in the beginning and thought whoever played the green (then later, white) ranger was all so dreamy and cute.

I thought the CGI one was fairly decent. The turtles were portrayed the best they've been since the Eastman/Laird comics. Unfortunately the story was a complete mess and they should've had the Shredder or some recognizable villain in it.

The thing that most pissed me off about the girl turtle was that she was named after a work of art and the other turtles are all named after famous artists. They should have named her something like....uh.....Georgia O'Keefe? I guess there aren't that many famous female artists come to think of it.

The thing that pissed me off the most about the girl turtle was THAT SOMEONE THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA. That can probably be said for the entire show.
