Group job interviews suck dick

I just had one, which was weird--they basically had us twelve candidates do some sort of two-hour AA-like panel discussion/job interview. What was even weirder is that I was the only guy they were interviewing that was below 40 (I'm 22), and I was in the midst of all these overqualified geezers fighting for a mid-level IT Management position. 2 Great 2 Depressing indeed.

Anyone else experience something like this lately? Are they doing this to cut HR costs?

yeah most of these guys were asking for like 80-100k. Not in this economy, old man...


Anyway I just found it surprising that all these seasoned IT vets--project managers, former CIOs, etc etc were doing so bad! I should have gone to law school, dagnabbit!

How the fuck did a recent college grad get that job then?

I got my bachelor in business economics when I was 20. I spent the last half year of that study in the company creating/compiling an accounting manual. They hired me when I was done with school. The first two years I did the accounts for various companies there, the third year I was controller for the holding company, another year later they made me head of finance.

Like Rebiak, I got my degree when I was 20. Been working on and off consultancy jobs while I was studying, too (and no, I'm not some sort of nerdlinger go-getter, all of this shit was required for me to get my degree). It's not as awesome as being head of finance, but hey, you'd be surprised at how basic the requirements for most of these mid-to-high level IT jobs are.

But yeah, good point; I've been out of work for a while and I should probably set my standards a bit lower now.
