first impression is that The Conduit ad on the booklet is hideous; art so bad that Rare would reject it.

Its pretty cool so far.  Only problem is some of the gestures/finishers ask you to do a specific motion but you can just waggle it.  Same problem with no more heroes.  The chainsaw and uppercut/reversepunch motions are reliable however.  The enemies aren't very aggressive but they're just fodder for points racking.  They'll occassionally throw in a miniboss guy who you actually have to dodge and strategise around.  Good stuff.  Year of Wii continues.  Elitist nerds pwnt.

Im curious if Edge's comments months ago about the gameplay being made for 5 year olds while the visuals are for tweens holds true.

I can see that being true if only because the game is really easy, but so far it seems like it's the point.  It's reminded me of Dead Rising so far and not so much so much a brawler like God Hand.  I've enjoyed what I've played so far.  Biggest problems are adjusting to the graphics and the camera.

best kill so far was shoving a guy on a spike ass first.

I'm interested, but it doesn't seem to have a Japanese release date, so I'll be wasting my money on Oboro Muramasa in a few weeks instead.

It would bomb in japan. Platinum/Sega was smart enough to concentrate on releasing it in the West.

Of course not, but it is a lot of fun so far.  It does kinda feel like God Hand super-lite in the mid-boss / boss battles, especially because your main defense here is to backflip away, but it's not nearly as in depth or anything.  It's mainly a Dead Rising style game that is a brawler upfront.  Awesome so far.

it has that kind of windscreen where it's wide, but on the sides there are still small black bars.  And while there is no 480p, it's still very sharp, more than the majority of Wii games.

So far I'm really enjoying it.  Camera is a bit of a problem in later stages when the environments get even more crazy and have things like giant pits where you instantly die once you fall in.  The motion control for vertical/horizontal slashes is surprisingly good and makes most Wii developers seem distinguished mentally-challenged for not pulling it off as smooth.

I've been reading the lack of 480p hasn't been a problem for some folks.  It might have something to do with textures only having two colors in the entire game.

edit: this game... wow so many "wtf just happened moments",

I've owned three Wii games that are 480i, and all three looked ultra-super-awful-disgustingly-BUTT-FUCKING-UGLY on my HDTV.  But that was in Japan when I had a Bravia; now my Wii is hooked up to an older Samsung 480p set, so it probably wouldn't look as bad.

The only one of those titles I kept is Sengoku Basara 2/Heroes, by the way.  Only game so good that even uglier graphics can't stop it.  I have the PS2 version as well; it's 480i too but still looks cleaner and it can be upscaled on a PS3.  Problem solved.

It seems to me that between 480i and failing to draw into the overscan region they were really having a hard time managing memory on the system.

Is it at least 60 fps?

I can't believe that some of you are buying this.  This is the perfect game to rent/Gamefly at 5-6 hours with little replay value.  I hope you get some money when you sell it back next week, at least!

Y'know sometimes I like replaying good games during the year.  And I'd say the replay value is pretty good, I want to go back to earlier levels and see how many multipliers I can rack up.

Yeah, I watched some of 1UP's Game Night on it and it seemed like the replay value won't be too bad, at least in terms of multipliers, etc. But like I said, it's probably better to pick it up this summer when it's cheaper.

Hard mode is a lot more of a brawler than the normal Dead rising-like stuff.  You don't really have time to chain up attacks on the enemy before killing them are are forced to just straight up fight them.  The combat isn't nearly as good as God Hand, but it is much better than No More Heroes combat.

I don't have time to replay games since I can't even keep up with the new ones, but I guess you don't have that problem since you're only playing Wii games.

I played through the first level and I don't know what to think.

Positives:
-Lots of ways to kill the enemies
-Dodge works pretty good as an invincible get out of things free card
-Fighting controls are pretty good
-Chainsaw is good
-Bloodbath challenges keep things interesting
-Ability to jump to boss right away when you get enough points

Negatives:
-Camera is reaaaaaally spotty and that's just in the first level.  I'm scared of later levels when I actually need to SEE
-Some controls are questionable.  Having to hold A the entire time you are holding an item sucks.  It's also hard to manage the camera/other enemise while holding things.
-Graphics are fucking blurry on my set.  I thought the game would look really sharp because of the black/white look, but instead sometimes I can't even see where I'm going/what I'm looking at/wtf is going on.
-Video setup screen is so distinguished mentally-challenged I have trouble believing it was made by ex-Clover people.  It says "here, look.  Your set is off, and we know some sets don't let you adjust positioning.  But we won't give you the option to adjust it in-game.  Thanks, bye"

The music/commentary are kind of horrible, but I just tune them out since it's an action game.

In some ways the game is better than I expected (combat) and in others it's worse (camera/some controls).

Yeah pretty much.  I used to have a ps2 and gamecube but my backlog happened in like the first week.  Played some Ico, realised I'm never going to like street fighter or most fighting games in general, and only played a wee bit of Disagaea (cute), Devil May Cry (cool), and Kingdom Hearts (pile of shit).  I kind of think its stupid to spend so much money on games  and decided to just stick with one system.  What's really cool is that Wii games often release cheap (kororinpa 2 $30 new) or price collapse, so it all works out.

So I did end up buying it, played the first stage. I was on a sort of media blackout from the game - I only really knew it was by ex-Clover people, in black and white with some red, and an action game. I was very pleased with what I played. Sure, the camera's sorta shitty, but the action is so much fun and it controls pretty nicely. The Wii motion stuff isn't as bad as it could have been, and it reminds me a lot of NMH. Really looking forward to the remaining five hours (lol) of this game.

Yeah, but the lineup is pretty poor.  If you had selected X360 and limited your purchases in the same fashion, you'd have a constant stream of AAA games to enjoy.

pretty surprised that Nintendo allowed a game with hardcore sexual commentary on their system, it makes the black guy in Overkill that came right out of a Tarantino movie seem tame in comparison

anyhow it seems pretty fun, though I would've preferred to play it on PS3 or 360 with a DS3 or the 360 pad, as I FUCKING hate the nunchuk

it plays like a modern, stylized reimagining of Smash TV would and that can't be wrong, loving the over the top music too

No More Heroes, House of the Dead Overkill and Madworld... we're now up to THREE games worth playing on the Wee-Wee over the span of two years and a half, gentlemen

I hate the Wii as much as any good American, but your complaints are not only idiotic, but factually incorrect.
