Boom Blox or Endless Ocean or Geometry Wars Galaxies or Excitetruck or Blastworks or Warioware waggle or Corruption or PES or WiiFit or WiiMusic or Animal Crossing or We Love Golf or Order Up! are LEAGUES better than No More Heroes.  It doesn't matter if some of the games I listed are hated because No More Heroes is a huge pile of steaming Suda shit.

I swear , I think some people think juvenile swearing and blood is what makes a good game.
"LOL he called that guy a fuckhead!"

In all seriousness Madworld is the full realisation of what I was expecting out of No More Heroes, because Platinum games is a competent developer and Grasshopper is all flash and no substance.

NMH is good.  But it just depends on what your expecting.  If you're cool with creativity that's rough around the edges and amateurish, then you dig it.  If you want a polished, well playing game.... :lol

I LOVE Killer 7 and I great like NMH and I sort of mildy enjoy the other shittier Suda games, but maybe that's just me.

Since we're doing counts I'll do my list of "wii games worth actually playing since the system launched":

-Fire Emblem (haven't actually played much of this, but how could it be bad?)
-Warioware
-Mario Galaxy (amazing platformer, 10/10, haters be damned)
-House of the Dead Overkill
-No More Heroes
-Dragon Quest Swords (awesome)
-Tatsunoko v. Capcom
-Disaster
-I guess Excite Truck for those people who like it
-Maaaaybe Metroid Prime 3 (was just ok)
-Maaaaybe Madworld (need to play more; still iffy about it)

Mario Galaxy is probably my favorite game this generation and in my opinion, the only game worth owning on the Wii.

Although admittedly, I haven't even scratched the surface of the 360 software because I'm cheap as fuck when it comes to buying games.

Mario Galaxy is good enough to make me seriously miss a console that I deeply resent. Maybe I'll just sell the other systems and stick with PC+Wii from here on

so looking at the end credits on Youtube, not only is Matsuno there but also Minoru Akao who was Square's lead sound programmer from 1990-2006 (at least).

I'd play this out of curiosity for the Matsuno bits but the ultraviolence really doesn't sit well with me, ugh.

The only game you need for the Wii is Twilight Princess. In fact, you don't even need to own it. You just need to rent it. Then you need a bunch of DVD-R's.

Twilight Princess has far better controls on GameCube, and GameCube games played on the original hardware with the component cables have 10x better picture quality than anything that runs off a Wee-Wee  :yuck

I wish I would've brought my old GameCube along in my apartment, I tried to play REmake on the Wee-Wee the other day but the picture was so gray and washed out that I lost interest in less than an hour

^I'm pretty sure they're using the same exact scaler on the wii and gamecube.  Actually, hasn't nintendo also been using the same composite video cables for like a decade now?

There is no video scaling going on in most Wii and GC titles.

The external chip used in the Gamecube component cables produced a superior image to the solution used in the Wii, however.

Ah.  That explains why the IQ in Wii games looks so awful on my tv when PS2/GC/Xbox looked fine.  >_<

I really hate what a cheap pos the Wii hardware is.  I hope Wii2 fixes a lot of these issues.

So um, I'm playing this for real today and the further I get in the more I'm digging it.  The boss fights are great and the action in general is real good.

One thing that seems like a huge missed opportunity is some kind of shop to use your points earned to buy stuff.  Because as it stands there's no incentive to go back and replay old levels since you aren't increasing stats or gaining money or anything.

PS.  How do you get to the Money Shot Bloodbath in the first chinatown stage?  Also what happens if you get all 3 orbs?

Just beat the game and now I'm just making headway in hard mode.

Not that Madworld has much competition, but its easily one of the better beat-em-ups of this gen.  I do wish the hard mode had been accessible from the start, as its a good, hearty challenge, and much more satisfying then the original difficulty.  But I understand that if you're going to make a Wii game you have to make concessions to the audience that owns it.

Is there a boss rush mode when you beat it?

I like the boss fights but the stages are a bit repetitive.  Fun for a few mins, but not for the 10+ it takes to get the points for the boss.  Still it's a lot of fun so I might replay it on hard.

I just beat the Shamans tonight.  I'm guessing I'm like 50% through the game?  My clock says 2 hours, but it feels like 5+.

Yeah the clock doesn't seem to synch with actual playtime.  Mine said 4 hours but it didn't feel that short.  It is short though.

No boss rush.

Yeah, as much as I am thumbs up for Madworld, I think it would have worked better if it just linear-level based like God Hand with mini-bosses and then a boss when you get to the end of the stage.

Even though these arena stages take generally the same amount of time as a real stage in a beat-em-up, it just feels more repetitive since you're running in circles doing the same combos.

The other problem is unless I'm missing something, the best scoring combo is just putting something on their body (tire/helmet/can), stabbing something through their head, and then doing some great combo kill.  So if you want to get to the boss quickly by getting high scores you are pretty much doing the same 3 part move EVERY STAGE, which is totally repetitive.  I'm guessing on hard mode where you don't have time to do combos and it's just about dodging and fighting it'll be more interesting.

Still I like the game, it's just that it definitely has flaws.  Then again all the Clover games were a little rough too (except Viewtiful Joe, which was pre-Clover anyhow), but were awesome.

I can get super violences pretty easy now (explosive barrels + groups) and I got my first extreme but Ultra?  Guys either bleed out too fast or break out of their tire when I'm trying to set up. Saaaaaad.  It would be unrealistic but I wish the environmental objects would respawn.  I go through sign posts and tires quick.

As for combos I think mine goes like
mask-barrel-multiple pinwheel/trumpet-multiple sign posts- 4 hit a combo-grab- 2 headbutt-throw into deathtrap with some other guys inbetween and try to knock them in.

Or I just stick a bunch of zombies with signs/masks/whatever (they don't bleed out) go grab some raw meat and throw it on where I want them to congregate.  Then throw an explosive barrel

Finished the game and  :lol that has the be the shortest game released in a while.  My clear save was 3:15 ^^;

Still, was a lot of fun.  The boss fights were great though a little easy.  The 100% invinicibility backflip was a little too powerful as a defensive mechanism as you just flipped every boss attack and then countered with chainsaw slices in the frames between their attacks when they rest.  The QTE mechanics were good.  Waaaaaaaay better than the QTEs in RE5.  Felt very satisfying to pull off cool QTE finishers.

I really liked the cutscene direction.  Very stylish and well paced.  Matsuno's work on the script totally showed.  It's not Shakespeare, but the actual plot is better than most games.  I HATED the commentary as it was just totally juvenile and XXXtreme to be XXXtreme, but I mainly tuned it out while playing.  The art direction was pretty nice.

Overall I think Platinum Games did good for their first title.  Especially one directed by one of the smaller guys at the company.  If Bayonetta and Infinite Space are just as solid or better, it'll be a nice lineup.

Madworld does seem like it was PG's 'small' starter project.  It feels pretty low budget, but not in the "things are rough" low budget, but rather just the game has a very small scope.  It's super, super short and there's hardly any meat to it for replay (according to gamefaqs you get nothing? by beating hard mode); it just feels like a small polished project that the team worked hard on to get out as soon as they could.

I think given another 6 months development Madworld could have made classic status like God Hand.  Maybe Madworld 2.  But considering how few decent beat-em-ups exist anymore, it's still great for a weekend.  8/10.

The more and more info comes out about ExciteBots, the less excited I get.  I'm just hoping that amidst the distinguished mentally-challenged fellow flair of wacky-crazy-shit there is still a solid arcade racer underneath.

and next Wii game to look forward to is Klonoa in May.  After that there is The Conduit, which could be ok; then in July there is Muramasa, which does look awesome, but so did Odin Sphere at first.  Also Boom Blox 2 whenever that's out.

Bloom Blox never worked correctly on my Wii.  I even exchanged copies but both copies skipped at random times and by skipping I mean the pointer pauses and then unpauses and flies along a 1/2 second later with the cd making a clicking noise.  Something about the streaming in the game wouldn't work with my Wii :\  It's still the only game that's given me trouble like that so I'm not sending my Wii in or anything.

I liked what I played outside the glitching.  >_<

Also I realized that Madworld is Yakuza 1/2/3 without their adventure halves.  In both games you have a limited set of basic attacks and dodges and the main appeal is just grabbing random items and slamming people with them and then doing environmental kills.  They also both have both fights with QTEs in the middle at times to do major damage.

I like how insane Excitebots looks.  My concern is that there may be too much crazy to keep track of.  The first had air/drift/rings/crash/throws/tricks/tree run bonuses.  A solid amount.  The sequel has all of these and pies/darts/soccer/freestars/bars/tambourines/flying/missles probably five things I'm forgetting.  Might be too much.

From the air to the tree run it was all getting you points, you were always still concentrating on the racing aspect of the game.  It's like how Burnout handled recharging boost by keeping everything within racing by making you avoid traffic, drive on the wrong side of the road, etc.  Excitebots just looks like it's filled with dumb shit around the levels that don't seem to tie into the idea that it's a race.  Also, the vehicles look really awful.  The first game wasn't the best looking game, but at least it was consistent and simple; Excitebots is just a clusterfuck mess happening on screen.  I'm hoping it will be a fun game, I just have my concerns.

I've heard bad things about Boom Blox 2, I thought?

I haven't really heard anything.  Boom Blox 1 was awesome and they'd have to try hard to mess up the formula.
