What did you think?  High-Def Digest gave it a good review.

It was pretty good. The ending was cool in a "OMG, I can't believe they just went there" kind of way.

It was pretty good. The tension kind of fell apart a bit at the end [although the end was still pretty wild in Clive Barker kind of way], but the main bad guy was totally awesome. Plus, it gets bonus points for lots of splatter.

Definitely needs those caveats, but it's a fun watch.

This is my favorite part.  I died laughing at the beginning the first time I saw it (maybe some spoilers, nothing really important):

Clive Barker is the literary version of Quentin Tarantino, though.  I'll believe it when I see it.

I missed it in the theater and can't wait to watch it one of these days now that it's out.

It's Ryuhei Kitamura's first American film.  He did the zomg Versus, and the pretty good Azumi, and the ummm...Godzilla Final Wars, and then some shitty movies like Sky High and Alive.  I'm curious how much of his style remains in this new film.

Fuck all that shit.  If he wants to convince me that he's worth paying attention to, he has to deliver The Scarlet Gospels, and it has to be as fuck awesome as it should be.  I love his early short stories and a few of the novels, but to make up for the succeeding decade and a half of poop, he needs to deliver with The Scarlet Gospels.

Also, I really liked The Midnight Meat Train.  As indicated, not perfect, but it stands well amongst the rest of the Barker filmography.  My main complaints, iirc, was some of the acting (particularly the dude from Alias) and a weird, out of place, Japanese-y sex scene.

I rather dug it.  Its over the top, but in a somewhat restrained way.  Its the first movie I've seen where the CGI gore actually looked really cool instead of distracting, so props for that.  Its no classic, but its fun watching Kitamura's Micheal-Bay-With-Talent wrestle with Barker's usual semi-classy Gothic sensibilities.

Finally sat down and watched this tonight.  Thought it was pretty good!

I think taking Barker's macabre hellish tale and mixing it with an asian Silent Hill/The Ring/Versus visual approach worked extremely well.  It really felt classier than your average horror film these days.  The cinematography was great and the music was as well.  Good performance by Vinnie Jones.

I wish they had kind of given a little more plot in the end bit, but otherwise it was a good film adaptation of a neat little horror tale.

I do worry though that Kitamura has NOTHING listed on imdb post this movie and this movie's been done since 2007.  There was a lot of trouble getting Midnight Meat Train distributed in theaters and I wonder if that really hurt his career that was just starting in Hollywood.  I hope he doesn't give up on film making in the US because of a bad experience.  I much prefer Kitamura works with legit material like Barker stories than some of the stuff he ended up with in Japan like the Sky High property.

He just finished a three episode OVA called Baton. The first episode airs at the end of April.
