What is it more similar to, GTA1 or GTA2? I lean on the GTA2 swing of thangs. It's one of the best in the series.

GTA2 is great because you can join any gang and you have to manipulate all the gangs to win. Getting on a gang's good side while fucking up the other gangs is a blast, and betraying gangs is even better. The fact that each gang has their own missions makes the game more replayable so you can do stuff is different order.

Is this game like that at all?

There's a patch now. It works. Cars control okay. I like the new pursuit system (You can lose stars by doing Burnout-style checks on cops), collisions and physics are generally weird/wonky. Feels like Lego Grand Theft Auto or Matchbox cars.

There's actually a cool little feature where there are these accident "dioramas" that pop up from time to time- It'll be like a bus turned over and one smashed up car and an ambulance and a firetruck all in an intersection. Cool detail and adds some tension in a speedy chase.

That's a sideeffect of the patch. There is a code you can use now that lets wifi work. I have no interest in online though.

It's pretty bad. The driving is awful, the graphics are impressive technically but the perspective doesn't work well gameplay-wise. It's way too easy to attract the cops especially since it's not even easy to tell who is a cop and getting rid of them takes too long.

The touch-screen stuff is kinda neat however some of the games are hard to do with your thumb but switching to the stylus would take too long, also having to play a mini-game when you get into a parked car gets annoying fast. The soundtrack is all intrumental too which is understandable but disappointing.

The cut-scenes are still images with text-dialogue. The script doesn't read so well with a lot of it sounding corny when it's not spoken. Overall, this just made me realise how impessive teh PSP GTA games are.

The talk about bad driving made me want to try it out before I buy it on Wednesday and it felt fine to me. Is driving assist off for you guys?

All I did was drive around, find a cop car so I can get a weapon quick, and kill some random people. It doesn't feel like GTA2 at all to me; it's like GTA3 using that overhead perspective, but designed to be played from it. Only thing that bugs me in my brief time with it was how people are the same size as cars, and motorcycles are practically invisible if you're riding on them. And the art for the game used in the cutscenes is pretty bad, almost like everyone has a different mental illness.

only weird graphical problem I saw was pop in, but I guess that's part of the GTA experience now. I'm using a CycloDS btw.

I didn't hate what I played, but then again, I didn't do any missions. I'm getting it Wednesday and probably holding off on playing it until the DSi comes out since the DS Lite d-pad is pretty awful for these types of games. I'll play Resistance PSP and Henry Hatsworth in the meantime.

the best part about doing random shit in previous gta games was that you were rewarded for it with better weapons etc.

at least in this one if you destroy the security cameras your drug deals can go up in price

Yeah, I really enjoyed going in to the final mission with additional health and armor, and having weapons and a bulletproof vest at my safehouse... and being fireproof. And being able to run forever.

I really hope there's some of that in this game.

I've adjusted to the driving. This game really isn't that bad once you get used to it. I had to do a fair bit of fiddling with the options (turn of auto gun switch and the thing that makes the camera swoop backwards every time you back a car up, I also didn't like steer adjusting being on) but it's kinda comfortable. I'm going to stop playing because my flashcard is making it slow down constantly. If I see it really cheap some day I'll buy it.

Yeah, driving assist off is better. Apparently it auto-corrects your car if you're not driving perfectly straight down the road, so that's why it has a weird snap to both driving and turning. I messed around with a bit more last night and tried to find a helicopter at the airport, which I couldn't. The other thing I wish I could change is the auto-lock on when you attack. R locks on anyway and I don't need it to always lock on.
