Curry is overrated IMO. There are a ton of college players who could put up 30 points a game if they were allowed to throw up 20+ shots a game like Curry.

Well, it looks like we are definitely gunning for Calipari.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4026848

Just made SportsCenter this morning too, and they sounded more certain than this article does too. Fuck, he might get an offer by the end of the week.

I can't complain too much about this choice. Plus there is speculation that one of Calipari's recruits might jump ship and go to UK as well if he leaves.

I would say it would be good to see Calipari try to earn his 30+ wins per year in a real conference but, you know, SEC...

Calipari is a good recruiter. He'll turn that program around if given the time - say two seasons.

Same can be said of Kansas, UConn, UCLA, fucking USC, etc. The NCAA won't do shit about those teams though. Hell, John Wooden turned a blind eye to boosters tampering with his players and recruits for years - yet today he's considered the patron saint of basketball.

That's another reason who Izzo would never go to Kentucky. Billy G was fired in part because he wasn't complying with the shady booster demands, plus he was ignoring their social politicking (ignoring the rotary club for instance).

You're getting ready to have to take UConn off that list thank god.  He's a dirty little shit too, will be fun watching 'Tark Jr.' get his due.

Did you even look up the team I referenced? Not a single player on it was over 6'5.

They also won the title.

Maybe they just bought off all of UCLA's opponents?

I think John Wooden's success at UCLA can be attributed to three things:

He recruited players that were already smart and knew what they needed to do.

He just kept his team in a great frame of mind, and just talked to them about life.

GREAT big men.

Sure, some players got paid, but last time I checked, I never met a player at any powerhouse program (not just UK, the Florida football players had THE FUNK, and every LOI sent to Alabama gets copied and the copy is sent back with the keys to an Escalade) that wasn't smoking the best weed, driving swaaaaank-ass cars, and just generally not having financial difficulties.

You wondered why Wooden was treated like a patron saint of basketball even though he was a cheating cheater. I answered thusly: because he accomplished remarkable things outside his alleged cheating years. Even if he was a cheating cheater, his talent was still obvious to everyone that actually watched him coach.

Also my one piece of evidence is more than your zero pieces of evidence. When you accuse... sorry declare someone did things the onus is on you to substantiate your claims. The fact I offered anything as a counter-argument when there was literally no argument presented in the first place is Christ-like in its generosity.

BTW your only sources of evidence are going to be someone that harbored domestic terrorists (SLA) for half a year, UNLV's cheating coach and a prolific drug user. HTH.

Anyway, didn't UCLA vacate a Final Four for using ineligible players?

Yes.

Wetzel misattributed the quote to Walton. It was written by Jack Scott, domestic terrorist. He edited it out of the article and replaced it with a much more ambiguous one.

Tarkanian had a nice clear record. Reliable witness.

Christ dude that site has the audacity to link a personal site made by a UCLA freshman for a class project as evidence.  :lol (BTW it sources an OC Register article from the 80s, good luck finding that!)

Save me Rubio!

People should start to get weary of European players who don't even receive significant playing time for their European club teams.

Watching him play, he has the PG skills that are fading away from the game. It's just an ability most don't have that he does. Doesn't mean it will come through in the NBA, as the NBA involves a lot of non-skill factors, but in the realm of basketball, Rubio has it.

That UMass team was pretty damn high profile for an A-10 team.  I guess it depends on what your definition of high profile is, undoubtedly UMass and Memphis didn't have the expectations of a Kentucky annually.  But there were certain years that they definitely did, last year and this year in Memphis, and the vacated FF and year after at UMass were pretty high profile.

Cal turned them into high profile teams and continued to coach them well. Ergo, he knows how to coach a high profile team.

Meanwhile, Conference USA slides further into mediocrity.

So, looks like our title game is MSU vs. UNC

Here's to hoping that MSU brings their A game this time, unlike when these two teams played earlier in the year.

I'm mentally trying to equate back to 90-91. December 3 might as well have been last season since it was so early in the year. So let's get in a wayback machine of generating precedents and look at Duke-UNLV. In 1990, UNLV decimated Duke by 30 in the championship game. The next year, it was an even more impressive UNLV team against Duke in the Final 4, and Duke pulled off the upset by 2.

In that case, since it was actually a different season there was some team turnover involved. I'm not sure if UNLV lost anyone meaningful off that 1990 team, but their starting 5 in 91 didn't have any freshman (I think they were all seniors except for Anderson Hunt, who would have been a junior). Duke lost 3 key players off the 90 team (Phil Henderson, Alaa Abdelnaby, and Robert Brickey), but gained Grant Hill, Antonio Lang (who matured into a good player later), and Marty Clark (non-factor in 1991, went on to ruin my life in the 1994 championship game versus Arkansas). For North Carolina and Michigan State, both teams have an entire season of experience since then plus some roster changes due to losing/gaining people from injuries.

Why did Marty Clark ruin your life in 94?  I'm not sure why you expected anything different out of him lol.  To me that game was lost 30 seconds in when Grant Hill busted his tailbone and was undercut going up for the lob.  His explosiveness was gone after that, that Duke was even in the game was surprising to me considering how much Hill had to do with Duke's success that year.  Although Collins and Lang were serviceable, it was pretty much Hill moving to PG that carried the team.  Ahh man, how close was Lang to blocking that Thurman shot, damn.

Anyway, you're spot on about the 1990 team.  I distinctly remember a conversation with my dad and how we expected 91 to be a down year comparatively.  Of course some of that was because of how thorough the beating was in the Finals, but also losing three senior starters, you just couldn't at that time see a team 'getting better.'  Of course we didn't know how good Hill could be (and it turns out he didn't know how good he could be until he was a senior.)  The difference in the game between 90 and 91 though was Bobby Hurley (and of course Laettner's progression to a dominant player.)  Turns out if your PG doesn't shit the bed (Hurley literally had diarrhea and was shown on national tv running to the locker room during the game lol) you have a shot to win.

When it's one game you never know, and that's exactly why MSU fans should believe they have a shot.  Hell, if you watched the UConn and Louisville games and didn't know anything about either team you'd think MSU was the heavy favorites.  They can do it one more time.

All I remember of the 1994 championship game is cursing every time Marty Clark made a boneheaded play, which was quite often since I came away from the game thinking that if only Marty Clark did not exist, Duke would have won 3 out of 4 championships. What specifically transpired, I cannot say. I have not seen that game in the fifteen years since it happened.

That final definitely hurt, I thought Duke had 3 out of 4 myself.
